Silver linings thread

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

My silver lining was that the players really gave a shit last night, apart from Balotelli of course.

Especially after he got sent off, the players appeared to switch it up another gear.

Some big hearts out there last night, AJ looked WELL up for it, Kolarov probably had his best game yet. Silva was sublime and Tevez was working his arse off, even covering for the fullbacks at times. Wish he would just score a goal again soon.

Taking lots of positives from last night to be honest, it was the best performance I have seen from City in MONTHS, Dzeko looked good as well especially when he controlled that last ball with his chest on the turn, absolutely brilliant.

I agree with all that. They played with a lot more freedom & showed what they may be capable of in the future. The downside is how we could have turned that effort into lots of goals if we had the right blend of attacking players both in the team & on the bench but hopefully that's what will happen next.

Leave Renato alone, there's no way he meant that in a rascist way.

I know the term monkey is what idiots use to get at black players, but it is also a term that perfectly describes the way Balotelli carries on... like a fucking monkey.

Balo vs the Bib anyone?

Silver linings - I was proud of the way City played in general and I'm more confident going into the Chelsea game than I was last week.

dude, i like Renato, but honestly regardless of where Renato is from, calling a black man a fucking monkey is uhm how you say "bang out of fuclin order." End of story. Even if you are fucking Irish you can't get away with it by claiming to be so fuclin pissed you don't remember it cuz you were in the fucking toilet.

look i grew up in a home where my Neapolitan grandfather used to describe his marriage to a Sicilian woman, my grandma, with colorful language i won't repeat here and essentially called it an interracial marriage. And affectionately so, but still...it's racist shit nonetheless.

i was bothered by the Renato comment.

Well that says more about you than him IMO. There's racism then there's people who will look for angles to associate words with racism. How the hell it actually "bothered" you is beyond me.

kin ell OD - you must be living with your head under a blanket. monkey chants have been used for decades to abuse black players - and are still commonplace in italy and spain in particular.

this is a story from 2 days ago:

im absolutely a sensitive soul. I wouldn't have it any other way. I am not an alarmist fucktard however making something out of nothing. i don't think i'm alone in thinking that Renato's comments were out of bounds. I also believe he doesn't seem like a racist jerk as well. #conflicted

I wonder if it's wrong to call Gareth Bale or Lee Evans 'Monkey Boyyyy'?

Oh, and in no way do I think Rene was being as described.

ok mate, i guess we may as well leave the debate there. i personally don't think it's reflects well (or is in any way acceptable) to have fans call black players monkeys.

and if you don't know the difference between that and calling gareth bale "donkey kong" then there's little point continuing.

It was a serious question mate, I just wonder where we draw the line.

However, I'm sure M4E has said worse when being misunderstood yet Rene's getting tarred before he's given the chance to explain.

Someone should send him a PM to find out.

that's bollocks and you know it. hence the "hope it's lost in translation" and several other people saying that they hope/reckon it was just poor choice of words.

i'll say it one last time, i don't think that calling a black player a monkey is acceptable, especially one that has been called a monkey and been subjected to monkey chants by his own fans whilst playing for his national team (the same country as the guy who posted the comments....)

are people seriously arguing otherwise?
