3rd is well and truly in our grasp here so how can anyone not be that arsed if we don't get it? So we've won something, brilliant for the club but we have a massive chance to avoid meeting a very tricky side in the qualifiers. Imagine if we get Bayern.

It's not a 'little bonus' it would be hugely, hugely significant if we got 3rd.

Quite the opposite. We won something, brilliant for the LONG SUFFERING SUPPORTERS. So we have chance to guarantee more money, brilliant for the club.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

It's the long suffering supporters who'll get the piss taken out of them all season if Bayern Munich knock us out of the Chump's Lg before we start. Next season can be better than this one & these next two games could be the decider in that happening.

Try taking your own advice that you posted when I was discussing possibilities with points totals in the league in another thread - and have some faith. You mentioned in that thread that players read the boards, so maybe getting a message to them about playing with freedom of expression and with the shackles off would be better for the next two games than putting doubts and worries and undue pressure in their minds (not that we're going to mention anything on here that they haven't already thought of collectively anyway)

the trophy was the thing i wanted more than anything. 4th was a bonus and and 3rd would be brilliant but as already mentioned its job done imo.

Not if Bayern knock us out in the qualifiers. We have two fairly simple games to avoid that possibility. It's not job done until the season's over.

For God sake, the club and its owner never stop telling us how important Champions League qualification (proper of course) is to the club.

Yet it isn't important to some.

Unreal.

Of course its important - its HUGE. Lets beat Stoke and take it to the last day of the season and finish the job at Notlob. Can't believe we have a chance at automatic qualification. This would be amazing and as Ted said make all the difference to our signings and pre season preperation.

We have to look at these two games as if they are our champions league qualifier. I'd rather Stoke at home and Bolton away than Bayern Munich home and away, that's for sure.

COME ON CITY - THIS IS HUUUUUUUUUUUGE!!!

What the hell? We have already earned the chance to play CL.

I'd also challenge the claim that Chumps league is "the most prestigious club competition in world football". I don't know how old you are and absolutely no offence but European Cup may have been prestigious. For ME, CL is bit of joke competition where clubs get without actually being Champions of any sorts. I still miss old form of competitions, which weren't (only) about milking money. I mean, how great would it be if we were going to play in Cup Winners Cup next year? Now there was a proper competition.

OD: I thought I made it perfectly clear that it's big deal for the owners and the Club financially. FA Cup win was billion trillion miles bigger thing for ME.

Sorry chief, I must have misread.

I completely disagree on the whole "champions league is a bit of a joke" though. I loved winning the cup of course, but I also dream of playing the likes of Barcelona, Real, Bayern Munich (though not in a qualifier of course), AC Milan, Inter Milan.... etc etc...

Personally, I can't wait to hear that music pumping out before the game at Eastlands. The champions league is the promised land. I watch every bit of it I can every season and we haven't even been in it.

So I suppose its how highly you rate the competition if its for personal value. I want us to become the biggest club in the world for ME and the next step is the one I'm campaigning for.

Antti,
I understand what you are saying mate but look at this way...We are climbing a ladder. each rung on the way up is another honour or another trophy. We have just stepped onto the 1st rung with the FA Cup win...You sya that is awesome in itself mate and I agree with you that is is...but it is still only the 1st rung of that ladder and our true aim is to reach the top at some point.

Finishing 3rd is a massive leg up to the next rung. It makes it easier to meet the demands both on the field and in the stewardship of the club to reach higher.

The money it will bring in will allow us to meet the UeFA demands and possibly strengthen the team further. It will allow us to attract a better quality of player. Whatever your view of the CL, in the football World, it's a big deal.

You're basically saying you don't value the Champions League. Take it you didn't celebrate when we beat Spurs then because it means nothing to you.

CL equals atleast 50million and the possibility to pick players from the very top of the list. How can that not be important? 50m equals one Kaka or Torres class player a season!

Without spending the money we have, we wouldn't have the team that allows you to do that. You are right that it is about honour but honour is achieved by spending the money...sad but true.
