Did it occure to you that this might be swap deal for your boy Lahm?

Fuck that would leave our defense as complete mess. Kolarov on the left and Lahm on the right.

With Micah and Zaba on the form they are right now, I doubt Lahm would play Right Back, would more likely replace Kolarov at Left Back.

Either way, Bayern won't let Lahm go, and even if, I do not think he would come to England.

Bayern Munich want him.
Roberto Mancini says he is not for sale at any price, he is one for the future.
Brian Marwood says he is not for sale at any price, he is one for the future.

Got to love football fans and their knowledge of football haven't you?

Jerome will be Vinny's partner for many years to come, has looked impressive whenever he has played at centre half and should not be sold to anyone for any amount of money.

HAHA

How many of our current players were "not for sale at any price"? In the football world, every cunt is lying through their teeth. Besides, how much sense would it make to say "yeah, we'll try to ship him off as hard as we can"? Do you think Bayern would pay max price? What if the deal fell through?

I'm not saying he is def to go but you should know better than to take anything said by football people as gospel.

P.s. At no stage this season did he really look "impressive". He was alright on occasion and shocking on occasion. Just like he was for Hamburg.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Smalling was no unknown quantity. He was defender version of Wayne Rooney or Joe Cole who every scout had boner on since he was playing youth football. He was unknown quantity only to wider audiences. Taggart made it clear they had followed his developement for a long time and picked him up when he was ready.

what an absolute load of bollocks. are you seriously telling me that united had him on their radar for years but decided not to offer him a place in their academy instead, preferring him to develop at maidstone and then with fulham reserves before spunking £10odd million him..??? yeah mate!

Eh? Well that's what taggart said.

And Smalling went to numerous of Academies but couldn't settle anywhere. And he was playing for England in just about every youth level. Do you think Manchester United don't have people scouting England School boy games?

Does any prem club not watch the guys at England School boy games? Arsenal tried to sign him, as usual they were outbid. He came from no where but it was Fulham (and Middlesborough, I suppose) who spotted him.

Even if we were aware of him we weren't in any real position to sign him back in Jan 2010, especially not on a deal to take him in the summer.

He's not for sale at any price because as we are now a top european club, top european clubs do not get rid of one of europe's most promising young defenders to a top european rival for less than they bought a year ago when he has got his tough first year out of the way.

There is no Peter Swales or Alan Ball's running the show any more, they are top knowledgeable people and as top knowledgeable people they know that Jerome Boateng is not for sale at any price.

I suppose that comes down to whether you think he is one of Europe's most promising young defenders. In my opinion there are better at his age group. For example, Micah is same age as him and is miles better at this stage.

Good point. It was not long ago Micah was the boo boy around here & many people questioned whether he would ever be good enough (again).

not been convinced by him at all and worried by the way he's pulled out of tackles, on occasion. However, I'd like to see him next year, settled in, with a full pre-season and hopefully injury free.
However, if he wants out, so be it, but not for less than we paid for him.
