I am softening on him after time has passed, but I would love to see the cunt at Chelsea....that would be funny.
Not really. Never was one of the 'Hughes Out/Hughes Bitters' crowd.
Surprised nobody's mentioned Chelsea until now: wasn't he considered by them before he came to us? Also, isn't he a Chelsea fan? I'd be really surprised if that's who they plumped for, though.
Yeah he was supposed to be very highly rated at Chelsea the summer he came to us, but I'd be amazed if they went with a British manager. Would be interesting to see how he would get on.....if the defence held up, he could play his suicide football and they would be good to watch.
Chelsea could do worse than Les.........would have liked to have seen what he could do with us with a decent defence in place
It was Peter Kenyon who floated the Hughes to Chelsea idea. This was when Kenyon was being frozen out by Roman and it was never a serious option any more than the Hughes to Bayern link when Van Gaal left earlier this year. Hughes was quoted as being flattered at the link to Bayern but it was PR fluff as Bayern already had the new manager lined up. Hughes does excel in the PR stakes as befits his status as the 'best young British manager' albeit the 'young' bit is starting to look a bit worn.
What I find slightly odd is why would Villa appoint Hughes? Appointing Hughes is not going to dissuade either Young or Downing from moving to clubs 'with ambition'. Appointing Hughes is at best going to have Villa slugging it out for 6th spot with Everton and Spurs.
Hughes is a mid level PL manager and appointing him just says that Villa are a mid level team and we have no aspirations to do any better. Hughes doesn't even have a reputation for winning cups - hell not even sure he has ever got a team to a final.
Still Hughes to Villa is good news for us so give him some cash and make it so Randy
