Etihad Have Bought The Naming Rights To The Stadium

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Ollie holt is on twitter spouting off about how we have named the stadium "the united stadium"...

Etihad means Unity or Union in arabic. Not United.

We sign probably the biggest stadium rights deal in world football and the focus from the media is on the name. Shocking.

Some reporting it is over £300M over 10 years, as it apparently covers other elements being sponsored other than the stadium.

Massive deal all in all.

I recon there's all kinds of stuff going on with this deal & Platini is going to have to spend the rest of his life trying to find out exactly what. How, for instance, does he know how much we are worth to Etihad in any given year? He would have to see their books. How does he know where their money comes from & how much is down to City's influence without looking at their books in abu Dhabi? So how does he know how much we're worth to them worldwide? Sheikh Mansour doesn't own them either.

I am absolutely loving the bitch fest that has commenced on twitter and other platforms on the internet about this new sponsorship deal, how it surely breaks the FFP rules etc. Then finally it dawned on people that United and Liverpool have shirt sponshorship deals worth 20m per annum and suddenly they are all shutting up.
so now as every enemy circles our city

I just listened to the conference on the official site. It all sounds good news, and I love especially the way Cook talks about this being an open ended arrangement with no parameters, so in essence, if we need more money pumping in, another stage of development will be agreed, which could go on forever.
As others have said here, I'm sure that the governing bodies are not happy, but it would be impossible to get to the bottom of the investment in terms of what market value is. As this is unique, we are not just talking about stadium and shirt sponsorship, but the surrounding areas also.

My god !!! people are really screwing over this !! Having loads of banter with some Spuds fans. I had to remind them about their double sponsored deal on their home shirt last season. These fookin idiots actually think they make all their cash on the gates..laughable.

I think many were holding onto this ffp rule to be something that could stop us in our tracks.Pissed right on their cornflakes. lol

£400M according to [urlnp=http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/jul/08/manchester-city-deal-etihad-airways]THIS[/urlnp]. By tomorrow it will probably be up to £1000M!

One of the more significant bits in the article is where they talk about some of that £400m being used to redevelop the area around the stadium as the Etihad Campus - since that money wont count against us in the FFP rules.

Just out of interest - if we suddenly found a truly huge amount of finance pumped into the club's account from various sources and earmarked for longterm development (so not counting against us for the FFP rules) and it just sat there waiting to be used, I presume any interest earned from the bank could be used for whatever purpose we wanted?
