I think that the changes being made to our reserves/academy are fantastic & it's almost everything I've been asking for in recent years. I love the difference in our EDS where, last season, I was going off on one about the number of obvious no-marks like Etuhu & Mee who were clogging it up, wasting time. Now it seems to be used for genuiniely trying out players who at least have a chance of making it to the level we need. Hopefully as they decide on the triallists etc, some of the better academy prospects will be fast tracked into that squad & play with the best we have. I think we have some real prospects at each level. Just on little bits I've seen; some look a level higher than most of what we've had in the past & the Etihad Campus hasn't even been built yet.

I completely agree with you here. Definitely a big step forward.

Just as a guide DH and co, what positions are you comfortable with the juniors providing cover for?

Is there a dm amongst them?

Razak looked comfortable when he played in Nige's role recently, and he has the physique for it.

Razak seems to have a brain for football too.

I would agree Razak might fill the defensive midfield role.I don't know if he has the touch and flair for an attacking midfield role but never say never with him as he is impressing me more each time I see him.

Roman/Assulin however are very talented lads with plenty of touch and attacking flair and Suarez might also fit that role as well Roman and Suarez might be a bit young though. ( not sure how old Assulin is)

Just on a few short viewings of Razak, I've been totally impressed that he just does the job for the team. I get the impression he has plenty of talent & when he 1st briefly appeared in the 1st team, it seemed he needed to try & show everyone, but now he seems comfortable & confident enough that he doesn't have to try & beat 6 men & score; he knows that what he's trying to do is correct & that the manager & coaches understand he's doing it right. It's very rare to see a young player with that composure; rather than trying to impress at every opportunity. Colin Bell played like that so it's not a bad thing!

So in short the summary is that ones to watch out for most are: Razak, Rekik, Assulin, Suarez, Roman

As an aside what has happened to Reece Wabara? He was lurking on the fringe for much of last seaso

What do you think will be done with Alex Nimely....surely he should go out? (either on loan or, more likely, permanently in view of the number of trialist forwards we're signing and the fact that we currently have five absolutely top draw senior strikers for the season?)

I forgot about Reece. He was at Carrington on Friday doing one to one with a physio ( so was Alex N). I know Alex has been injured but I am guessing Reece was just coming back after the England duty.I rate Reece but maybe has has another year before a loan spell would be right. Alex might well benefit from a loan spell to see what he has got in him.

I think Reece Wabara looks like a great prospect but the question is where ? He has pace & very good football skills for a defender but he doesn't look the right build to be a PL CB to me. Similar to what I was saying about Savic on another thread (except Reece is much faster). I just can't imagine Reece marking Drogba or Kenwynne Jones or Crouch or even Adebayor.

Fullback or defensive midfield perhaps ?

Didn't Reece also pull his hammy on international duty?

The inside word ( sounds good that doesn't it) I have heard is full back for Reece.

This Rekik kid really impresses me at left CB. Only 16, needs to eat a few pies, but Mancini obviously sees him and Razak as the ones to come through and, to put it bluntly, many of the older ones in the log jam which they are bypassing will be hooked out sooner or later.

He was quoted on the MCFC site a while back as saying he trains as a fullback with the first team. (Just to add to Doug's inside word)
