I'm very interested to know how we all feel about Mancini's contract situation?
If I'm correct, he has 2 years left now of his original contract. I know that managers don't have the price tag that players do, hence it is common to wind a contract down to the last year before re-negotiating. Having said that, after the decades of upheaval, and player turnover, the last thing we want is another change, and continuity and stability are, and will be a huge plus point, in our challenge for years to come.

So, the point of my post, is would it have been a good idea, to extend Mancini's contract now. It would have been seen as a seal of approval, a reward for the progress made, and recognition, that we need stability and a strong platform to build on.
I cannot imagine the board would look for a change again, for one thing, there's no candidate that fits the bill, and more important, Mancini is now getting HIS team to play HIS way.
Does anyone know if Mancini is sure fire to want to stay on himself? He says he would like more control on daily affairs, and there seems to be some ruffling of feathers, between Mancini and others behind the scenes, albeit that it will likely blow over, once the transfer window closes.
It would be a bitter blow, should in 12 months, Mancini stalls on any proposed deal. Maybe talks are underway, but whatever this season brings, I would like to see Mancini here for the long haul.

I remember speaking to my old man when bobby manc was setting us out not to concede a goal and he kept saying it's all about sending out a message to the league that when ever anyone plays us they will be hard pushed to score 1 let alone 2 goals against our defence. now he's achieved this the team can start to play knowing the oppo turn up feeling if we score 1 they'll be hard pushed to get anything out of the game, all the top teams have this fear factor and now we're adding a huge attacking threat that teams have to score more than 1 against us to stand a chance of winning which won't happen too often this season

This season has started nicely for us; we've played some good football, the attacking has been quite stylish and shown loads of good potential, we've shown a fair bit of flair in the way we've gone about things and the team has been rewarded by a good return of goals.

HOWEVER - and I don't want to sound like a pragmatic killjoy - it's a long, long season and the team won't always be able to perform with such freedom and invention as they'll, inevitably, go through a bad/sticky patch (just think of Chelsea last season), as the number of games played and the onset of injuries and loss of form start to mount up.

At such times we'll have to ride things out and be prepared to simply grind out results, irrespective of performance. A large factor in achieving this will be by keeping a load of clean sheets and it's vital that the wrecking crew at the back always stay focused and on their toes. Conceding two goals at Bolton may not seem much in the cosmic scheme of things, especially in comparison to our overall play and the result, but it's a mindset that we can't possibly allow to slip. We have to go into every game believing and knowing that we're not going to concede anything.

If we do continue to leak goals, I'm convinced Bobby Manc will inevitably feel compelled to tighten things up by re-inforcing the defensive side of things and the attacking flair will suffer accordingly. From what we've seen so far of the new season, don't think any of us would want that and, on that basis, the clean sheet record has got to start here whilst the going, to date, has been so good.

This has always been a concern of mine re Mancini but at least now he talks as if he wants to hang around for a while. Initially he used to talk a lot about what he's going to do next. Nowardays he talks a lot about City's future as if he wants to be part of it. Don't rule out the influence/power of Cook & Marwood here though. Mancini has the power if he hits his targets but if he misses them, after being critical in public of those 2, he could have a big problem.

The other scenario that worries me is if someone offers him the Italian national team job, I think he'll take it.

Agreed Ted, the other factor is Italy. There's always going to be something hanging over us, but I live in hope that even if Mancini is offered the Italy job, he may see the City job as one half done. It will be interesting to see this time next year if he has signed a new contract.
