Kolarov scored the equaliser against Napoli at the Etihad: he set up a superb cross for Ya Ya's headed goal against QPR
What exactly has Clichy done to compare?

Just the 2 positive moments then?
Clichy is a far better fullback, we look more solid and balanced with him in the side imo.He can defend and help in attack and rarely iv seen anyone get passed him.

No point having a squad if we don't use/trust them. Mancini got it wrong. Like I said unfortunately it shows our weakness in the defensive third.

There are lots of players in the squad but it doesn't mean you should play them just cos they're available. Would you have dropped Kompany for Savic tonight or de Jong for Razak (before the game, no hindsight).

We knew from the first game that Napoli were narrow defensively and very quick. So why play the two slowest fullbacks who'd struggle to defend and couldn't exploit the gaps at the back? If Mancini is that scared of Liverpool he needs to get a grip. Being in Europe means two games a week and he needs to win both, not risk one to win the other. The league form has obviously been excellent but we've been poor in every CL game apart from away against Villareal's reserves. That's worrying.

We may well be in the market for fullbacks in the next couple of windows.

To play in that position for Bobby you have to work HARD. Put more effort in than anyone else imo. We're playing our second string in Europe because the league is the priority this season. It's all coming together bit by bit. I don't normally agree with the mom decision but I reckon Micah definitely deserved it on sat- he was winning every header in his box and causing havoc in theirs for the full 90 minutes. It gives me palpitations just thinking abut how much sprinting he did in that game.

imo fullbacks need to be rested more often than any other player- midfielders might cover more ground but fullbacks probably do most of their running at a full sprint to overlap the midfield whenever we attack (frequently being overlooked & just used to create space for a winger to cut inside, in which case it's a case of spinning round & sprinting back to get into a defensive position). So when they get rested it really is to give them a rest - they need it. No human being could sustain the level of stamina to keep doing that to Bobs satisfaction for a whole season in all competitions.

Kolarov was bought as a first choice & it just hasn't really worked out, has it. Not fast enough & not the best at defending. Zaba is a legendary squad player. Contract for life, love him, but he's not quick enough to start top champions league games (especially when the opposition specializes in the pacy counter attack). Next year hopefully will be different, one way or another. One step at a time. Bob has clearly been told which competition to focus on THIS year.

Business as usual on Sunday I reckon. With the added bonus of points to prove from Richards & Clichy, hopefully. If we do go out I'd prefer being allowed to sing the name of the city (well london borough/stadium) we won it in anyway.

check the stats and clichys work rate , passing completion , tackels etc and you will see he is a far better plaey although he may not score as much.

The problem with Kolarov isnt just his pace based on tonight. He had quite a few crossing opportunities and just got them all wrong.

Doug, he never put one decent ball into the box all night, he slowed us down everytime we tried to move forward at pace. As for his defending, positioning and general awareness of the oposition around him was unbeliveably poor. He needs to thank Joe Hart, that this scoreline wasn't seriously f@@king embarasing!

Clichy can't shoot for shit & he knows it. Quick check shows 2 goals in 8 seasons at arsenal- 1 more than I remember (the massive jammy deflection). He's a quality defender though & I'd be interested to see his ranking this "hockey assist" thing I seem to remember reading about recently (assisting an assist). He rips everyone apart but never gets the recognition.

If it was the QPR Micah, Napoli would have been out of sight by half-time

This "qpr" micah keeps cropping up. One game where he had to cover savic and looked flustered.

No, I think everyone means the micah from every other game this season. Let's take the rags at the swamp, or newcastle.

That fucking micah.

Bellamy and Downing. That why they were rested, unfortunately this showed that the 2nd choice defence are way way off the 2nd choice midfielders and attackers.

If Micah and Clichy are never rested, they will soon be injured and unable to play. Brilliant.

Mancini has prioritised winning the PL. I dont think that is a bad thing.

It's not. Everything he says in his post is correct apart from his assessment of Dzeko who wasn't fairly absent but anonymous

Is it? In the OP Nick mentions for example "Every time we have zaba and kolorov at full back we lost our attacking threat from wide IMO"
Now tell me how we scored the two goals at home vs Villarreal? We must've gone through the middle as Zabba and Kolarov aren't an attacking threat.

I'll repeat what I put in another thread. Maybe we could have played Kolarov/Micah and Clichy/Zabs. Easy to be critical after the event though.

I said in another post with multiple IPA's in me that Bob should go. Now sober, I dont feel that way....but Im glad others are acknowledging that he made some mistakes in this game. Aguero in my mind is someone we gotta get out on the field more...he adds so much depth to the attack....having Balo and Edin out there to me was just off minded. We need more movement as well. Too much standing and making the "ho hum" pass to the next player...hardly anyone makes runs? Time , space, and angles...if you dont create, you get zero of these three things....and then you lose like we did last night. As much as everyone is on Kolarov, I though Nigel had an off night!

De Jong has been kak for a while now.....never won a ball yesterday and got skinned twice.

Overall I blame Mancini as he learnt fuckall from the first few games.

This was my thinking while I was watching the game. We have to beat the dippers just to keep my sanity at work a scouser has been telling me all day that bobs going in Jan and morinho is coming in .he also said bellers will rip us a new one. I hope we smash um just to shut him up....

The biggest issue was the front two picking up VK, so Lescott was The out ball, great for them for us it never worked, both fullbacks and Centre halfs looked average at best, saw the same via Rossi eyal Villareal, just an opinion we have a couple of mistakes for both goals and Hart saved us from a 6-1 Back4 need to up it against top class opos.
