Outrageous.

KK, I said the same thing the second I saw it (didn't need to see the replay). Foy kept running while Wooney remonstrated. This is the second time whinging players have got us a sending off (Scousers did it to Mario). What is appalling to me is that even at the highest level refs listen to players.

One of my friends said, Foy was probably hearing it in his earpiece from the referee's assistant, but that is bollox as there was no conference. He saw nothing and reacted to the hairplugged c*nt. In addition to Vinny's appeal, they should censure Foy for wearing red.

That said, so proud of how we didn't give up. Title in my opinion is even more assured.

So let me get this right Kompany gets a three match ban for a fantastic hard tackle and if we lose an appeal he gets four games, meanwhile Saurez is a dirty racist coont and only gets 8.

The world has gone bonkers.

I do not think we will win an appeal.

Grounds for optimism perhaps?

"The ruling for a two-footed challenge is that the moment a player leaves the floor, he is not in control of his own body," explained Referees' Development Officer for Manchester FA, Peter Roberts.

"If he takes the ball cleanly, it is a free-kick and a caution. If he takes the ball and the man, it is a free-kick and a dismissal for serious foul play.

"If he takes nothing of the ball and only the man, it is a dis- missal for serious foul play. The only instance in which he can escape a dismissal is if he takes the ball and not the man."

should be a good shout for appeal.

What is the source for those quotes? It's interesting. If all that is true no way it can be a red card.

For all those saying "He went in with 2 feet - automatic red. Should have known that". Well, no. You go in with 2 feet and get the player at all, even if you win the ball, its a red according to that. But if you go in and win the ball and don't get the player it is a yellow.

Seeing it in real time I thought it looked a bit dodgy but he won the ball, Nani didn't go down, Vince controlled it and kept playing and so did Nani. So how is that a red?

The animted GIF here makes it look bad because of the angle but I've now watched the replay a bunch and one thing that no one seems to be mentioning is that Nani NEVER HAD POSSESSION. That GIF makes it look like he was dribbling the ball and Vince came in 2 footed and scissored him. But the ball was ahead of Nani in a 50/50 and Vince won the ball clean and Nani was able to avoid the contact knowing he was beaten to the ball. So how is that a red card? Can a player get a red card for winning the ball in a 50/50 when his foot is not over the ball and he doesn't make contact with the other player? Is that possible?

As far as being out of control - Does Kompany go over the ball with his foot? NO. Does he go thru the ball? NO. He actually stops it with the side of his foot and his ankle. Foot level height wise with the ball. And the ball doesn't fly away from him. It stays right there and he plays it. And Nani never touched it. So how is that out of control? IT ISN'T.

So we have -

Nani never with possession. Nani never touching the ball. Nani never going down and continuing to play.
Kompany going hard but slowing as he approaches ball. Beating Nani to ball and stopping it with his foot around that ball not over or thru it with enough control to be able to retain possession and pop up and play it. Kompany never physically fouls Nani in the act. Everyone plays on.

Then 3 seconds later Rooney runs over waving his arms and we have a red card. Is that about it? Can it honestly be argued any other way. Foy can say whatever he wants "It looked bad. Went in with 2 feet. Etc., etc." But doesn't there have to be some sort of reckless foul on a player in possession of the ball to get a red card (other than violent conduct, spitting, and the like)?

Watching your GIF doesn't fill me with hope. That angle shows him going in with both of his feet off the ground and I think the panel will use that as an excuse to uphold the original red card

That was my initial reaction too, but now I'm not so sure... if you watch it and watch it, I think his right leg is actually on the ground when his left leg takes off. Very hard to tell.

My interpretation (which has fitted fairly well with sendings off) is that the key point about the going off the ground part of dangerous challenges is when you jump upwards as part of the tackle. They you really have no control as you're flying through the air and you land with enough force to snap bones. Vinnie doesn't do that.

Didn't see any of those things in that tackle.

Chances of Nani or any player even remotely being injured or even knocked over by that tackle were zero.

Won all the ball without endangering the man, I fail to see the issue. Top tackle imo.

He didnt use both legs, it was a clean one footed tackle, his trailing leg wouldn't have made contact with Nani even if he hadn't jumped up in the air. All the appeals panel need to watch is the slow motion replay from behind Vinnie, it shows it all.

I really have hard time even talking about this shit. To say I went berserk with the decision is quite an undertatement.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Watching it again seems to be the crux of the issue here for me.The fact is more or less instantly we see replays from different angles that can help us see what has actually happened. The ref has to react instantly having only seen the incident maybe from a slightly obstructed position or even perfectly but nontheless only once.
I think that until another official who has immediate access to both the main ref and camera feeds there are going to be mistakes like yesterday.

I watched the game on Dutch TV and everyone in the studio were agreeing that we'd been robbed. They were livid in halftime about the red card (because they thought it'd ruin the game), and even went as far as to say that City were the moral winners at half time (OK, that was said by former City player, Alfons Groenendijk). After the game they were full of praise for City and talked about how United went in to the game with an underdog attitude with 10 men behind the ball hoping to score on the break. They thought United looked weak and thought the red card + the missed peno were very dodgy.

It didn't look like a foul to anybody in the ground, including most Utd players. Just shite reffing. If it was shown to a 4th official or video panel, under pressure from Ferguson, the video refs would interpret it as a red card because they know that otherwise, their names would be all over the newspapers, branded as incompetent or biased.
