Piss funny when that fannys boot fell off and the ref gave AB a free kick which they score from. Never knew that you get a free kick if someone loses a boot......lol.

Perfect result, leaves them interested and they'll have to go for it. I was worried at 3-1 they'd concentrate on the prem.

I think there's a rule about entering the field of play without adequate footwear- I think India got banned for it, which is how Wales qualified for the '58 World Cup.

The commentators said he just signed a new contract with Bilbao, with a release clause of 30 mil.

FT Atletico Madrid 3 - 1 Besiktas
FT FC Twente Enschede 1 - 0 Schalke
FT Metalist Kharkiv 0 - 1 Olympiakos Piraeus
FT Sporting Lisbon 1 - 0 Manchester C.
FT AZ Alkmaar 2 - 0 Udinese
FT Manchester U. 2 - 3 Athletic Bilbao
FT Standard Liege 2 - 2 Hannover
FT Valencia 4 - 2 PSV Eindhoven

Glad AZ beat Udinese. For some reason I dislike that team a lot! Valencia also switched off at 4-0 to give PSV a way back into this tie.
I don't think any of these ties is over yet! Gonna be interesting 2nd legs all over europe

This.

Lets hope they win 3-2 in normal time, go through extra time and it goes to pens, and Bilbao win 74-73 after the longest gut wrenching penalty shoot-out known to man, which goes on for 3 hours.

That's the most impressive display I've seen by a 19 year old for a long long time. Skill, pace, brains, effort. If we don't sign him, someone else probably the rags, will.

SIGN HIM IMMEDIATELY.

I don't care who has to go; AJ, Nasri, Milner, Dzeko; sell the lot if neccessary, just sign him.

I would fancy us against Bilbao if we were 100% trying to win, which tonight we weren't.

I hope we draw Bilbao if we get through. I think it would be a fantastic game of football.

I think we would football them to death. Look a cracking side, but we have a lot more quality and ability than united had on display last night.

Tell you what this showed though once and for all - it shows up cunts like harry fucking redknapp, tony pulis and others of their ilk, who send their sides out against united already 1.0 down in their head. These cunts are there for the taking in every game, but nobody takes the opportunity to set about them because in their heads they have already lost.

We have seen it this year with stoke, everton and one or two others, and will probably get more common as the years go by. United tonight were shown up for what they are - error ridden defenders with a couple of decent offensive players to keep them hanging on in there.

Other teams should take heart from what they saw tonight, in particular all these "easy" games they say they have coming up, should have just got a whole lot trickier if the managers of those sides scrapping at the bottom are switched on enough

The scum were outplayed by a very good side and were lucky to get that late pen to keep them in the game. They may well get through but it clearly showed up 2 things. If you have the bottle to attack them they are all over the place and some of those players just are not up to it.Rafael,Jones in midfield,Park,Anderson.
Yet they are where they are and I would not bet against them in Bilbao

Discraceful. You do realise he's English don't you? But how bad was that Rafael for the third goal? Does he have a medical condition that means he can only look to his right? That replay from behind the goal is just astounding. I haven't played outfield for over a decade & I truly believe I'd have defended that better.
