He was bought in july 2004. His debut for Chelsea was in november, almost 5 months after he signed, then every season he was out for at least 2 months. The conclusions are yours.

I totally understand the Ronaldo feelings, I stand by that it simply wouldnt feel right.

But can you imagine every boy under 16? They would fucking love it, the 2nd best player in the world (who outscores the best player in the world) playing in a blue shirt.

I would feel sick watching him score and "presume" that we'd all love him, watching him milking the applause, grabbing the badge on his shirt etc.

But a whole new generation of fans would fucking love him, and another few million would support City around the world. Ronaldo would win us the league, a cup and give us success in Europe, no doubt.

I wouldn't begrudge anyone that, no. But at the same time, I don't think I could ever feel 'part' of it. Us non-season ticket holders who make it to 2 or 3 games per season but have been going for 15-20 years are finding it harder to get tickets. This 'new generation' are one of the factors in that. I simply cannot see myself accepting being an armchair supporter cheering on Ronaldo. That's for supporters of another club who we were chastising for doing exactly the same 5 years ago.

He won two premier leagues, two league cups, one fa cup and one community shield in three years and was named in the pfa team of the year for 2005. Not bad for someone who will get murdered in this league, not to mention he was only 20 when he signed for them. I just dont buy it at all, he would be an outstanding signing for us.

No one is saying he isn't a top class player. Bayern won the league and got to the final of the Chumps because of him, but he is a liability and sad for him, he can't do something about this, although he has a regular style of life.
Last season, his first game for Bayern was in january and this season he was out for two months. The same goes with RVP.

I think if there is one club in the world where he can get away with playing 20-25 games a season its with us due to our squad strength. I think he would be a great signing in general.

I love this thread.

Just read somebody say they'd love Higuin and somebody else call RVP a bit of a cunt and neither got slated for living in Australia.

So whoever had a dig at me for this two opinions other week take that.

Now for my list, Higuin if Tevez leaves, a decent cb (not sure who) and don't tinker so much next season.

Ade, Tevez, Balo, Dzeko, Johnno, Savic, Bridge, Santa Cruz, Kolo, Hargreaves to go. Must be a good £90 - £100Mil in fees there and more than enough freed up in wages to cover the wages of our targets.

I actually think the departures are pretty nailed on. Perhaps Johnno and Savic might survive but I'd say the rest are pretty much certs to leave. can't see Bobby trusting Balo or Dzeko for next season.

FFP is obviously the problem. I reckon even with £95Mil brought in we'd be left with a deficit of anything between £20 - £40Mil depending on which of those targets we brought in.

Much as I understand fully those who reckon Balo will be for the door I would say that there is very little chance of that happening for one key reason....saleability. I don't think there will be anyone out there willing to pay what we paid for him and after having staked so much on getting him in I really don't think Roberto/the club will want to take a bath on him. I think he'll get another season to justify the faith.

Agree on most of the rest of the outs....Johnno is borderline I agree. I think more likely than not if only because I think someone in the mould of Liverpool or maybe even Spurs might come in for him with a decent offer and I think we'd bite their hand off.

I could kinda see Savic surviving but definitely see him going out on loan if he does. I just again cannot see anyone coming in to buy him after seeing how badly he has floundered this season.

Kolo I don't think will be going anywhere. I think that the action he's had second half of the season will be enough to convince him to want to stay and that he's in with a shot of being a regular starter. I don't think he will be as I think we'll bring in the real partner for Vincent....
Dzeko I think will definitely go. There will be quite a list of clubs keen and I think we'll get a decent fee.

Tevez i hope goes, we should have been able to get his market value back up by then and he has to go for us to bring in someone like Lavezzi.

Then one of two quick (rather than "tricky") wingers....but if we do sign one or two of them then we absolutely need a target man (Cavani) if we do let Edin go.

All in all it feels a bit depressing writing that. I would have liked this summer to have been about consolidation and adding depth (as I think we've felt "thin" at times this season and it has hurt us) but it seems like some degree of reconstruction required as the playing staff really hasn't performed consistently enough to the level they should have been capable.

#frustrating

Yes, that was my rationale on Kolo for thinking he'll leave. It wasn't down to performances. I reckon Bobby will go for a partner for Vinny, Subotic hopefully, and with FPP looming I don't think a fourth choice centre half on £120k a week is doable. When you consider that he'll be off again in Jan/Feb for six weeks African nations duty there is a very compelling case for moving him on. I'm pretty convinced he'll go.

As for Mario, you might be right but I'm hoping Milan may take a punt on him.

On the last point, totally agree. I hoped this summer would be about consolidation and some tinkering. However, we still need one more summer with a bit of movement to get the squad to where it needs to be. It's also absolutely vital that we do what we failed to do last summer, get the dead wood off the books and do it early.

World class centerback and some sort of central midfield play maker to help Silva. If I could just go and pick any two players for those spots, they'd be Schweinsteiger and Subotic. Both perfect fits for the way we play and what we lack. Of course this is real world and Scweinsteiger is unlikely. I feel we could get Subotic though.

Get rid: Bridge, Kolo, Savic, Kolarov and Tevez.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

4 defenders out and 1 in?

Ok bridge is a stretch, but I still think you're making us awful light with that list.

I'd bring both Boyata and Rekik to the team.

That'd put our defence in following shape:
Rightbacks: Micah, Pablo
Centerbacks: Kompany, Lescott, Subotic, Boyata, Rekik
Leftbacks: Clichy, Pablo, Lescott, Rekik

Zabaleta has shown he is very capable playing either left or right back. I'd have Lescott covering leftback as well which he is very much capable to do. Micah and Pablo are two of the naturally fittest fellers on our team so they'd be able to cover the rightside throughout the season but I might consider some sort of extremely young one for the future option there maybe. But yeah, there's enough strength in depth I feel.

Not the most popular player in the world, but anyone rates Lennon?

I think we really miss a SWP type of player on the wing.

I can't really see Joleon bombing down the left wing and providing crosses!
he just might be able to play as an emergency back up at LB for one game or so but not more. not with our tactics.
I'd rather keep Aleks.

And I want us to bring PACE to the squad/wings. Someone who can take on a defender. That's the no.1 priority for me. Is it Hazard? Haven't seen enough of him but he does look promising.would be young too which would suit us. Imo Robben would be ace too. As mentioned he might miss some parts of the season but our squad should be strong enough

I could go into next season with Aguero,Dzeko,Balotelli and Guidetti...
But if Dzeko or Balo goes we will need someone.. Torres/Lavezzi/Cavani/Llorente? I dunno.

And I wouldn't mind if Pizza stayed too.

Why is everyone so concerned about our defence? Its fine how it is. One of the best in the league for the last few seasons. Its hardly a priority. What matters is keeping them on the pitch and keeping them away from the African Cup.

We cant have 3 top class CB's and keep them all happy. Rotating them is not good for consistency. We have VK and JL, who would get into any team in the league at the moment. Kolo as back up is experienced and good enough. Micah and slot in too as shown this season again.

JL isnt happy on the bench, so if we bring in an upgrade, we would be relying on keeping Kolo and playing the upgrade with VK, who would have to learn to play again with a new team mate.
