It would be amazing if they got Souness back in.

Liverpool are in need of a big fuclin overhaul and anyone who takes on the job will need time and patience but this is unheard of at anfield as they expect to challenge and the squad they have is, quite frankly not good enough for champions league.

Dalglish ruined them last time and souness took over a pile of shit and never had a chance. The same will happen again unless they have a serious reality check.

On another note, glad to see our england manager rewarding the excellent season the lfc players have had.

I thought roy was the right choice but on the back of what i have seen today, i wont bother with the hype for this tournament.

Martinez is a solid manager as any reasonable human being can see from what he's accomplished year after year keeping Wigan up trying to play football on a rugby pitch, etc.

I can tell you that if Martinez takes over at red scouse within 3 years they'll be fighting at the top of the dogpile with better buys and a better style of play. Take that to the bank...the blood bank. (in the words of Steven Segal).

good enough for you, assclown?

Independent saying AVB has been approached.

Must have emerged as their top candidate as he's the only available manager with thinner skin than Dalglish.

Funny. I thought they would let him try to right the ship after one more season. Honestly
though, their has been no more sad site than Liverpool right now. And I don't think
I've ever seen so many happy Scouse-haters than at the current time. They are right about
his signings though, 100 million didn't help them do shit!

He won one title for them this season though - 'Prem team to hit the 'woodwork' most times'. (We could only manage third).

He actually won one title for them this season and that was League Cup.

I think they are making stupid stupid decision. Look, I'm not saying Dalglish is manager he used to be but at least he could ALWAYS deliver them silverware. Clearly his approach of just playing (overpriced) players from within Premier League was outdated but he has just turned whole their squad over and now gets the sack. Giving him all that money should've lead into some stability and they should've just seen what he will do with those players over time.

Liverpool job is the kind of job I'd stay well away if I was young up and coming manager. Illusions of grandeaur within the Club, unreasonable expectations from supporters, under the spotlight in big job yet probably just average resources to play with. Only way you can be considered success there is by winning the league or Champion's league (clearly cup wins aren't enough). They can not offer resources and/or group of players to achieve that. They could maybe push themselves in top 4 again with some money and good management (although Arsenal are starting to find their feet again so it will not be easy task to catch them) but we and rags are so much ahead of them that it would take MINIMUM of 100 million investment on team (and that is with unrealistic assumption that none of the players bought with that money will flop) and super top manager. They don't have that money.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Well cup title. Anyway, my point stands, he deserved some respect for doing so well in cups even if they sucked balls in league.

AVB a bit of a gamble. Not done much apart from his year at Porto.
Good with the media though.

Sorry mate, but that 2nd half of the season, points wise, was worse than every team bar wolves. That is entirely unacceptable, from a manager who knows the club, was working within the club before taking over and apparently commands ultimate respect of the playing squad.

Something wasnt right at liverpool under Kenny

Someone above was right about his previous tenure with Liverpool. He left the club an absolute shambles, Barnes and Beardsley, the rest were wank or ready for retirement, and souness copped the flak for it and has always been regarded a failure of a manager everywhere else since. But remember, wherever he has been, it has usually been in the aftermath of Kenny, Blackburn, Newcastle, Liverpool - wheras at Rangers and in Turkey he did a reasonable job.

Kenny seems to have this uncanny ability to poison the club he works for, slowly killing it from the inside, then fucking off before having to deal with the consequences. His conduct in the media alone is grounds for dismissal in my opinion, in particular the suarez affair. Then you add in soending lots of money on players like carroll - who most city fans will know CAN be a good player, but kenny bought him and didnt have a fucking clue what to do with him - hardly inspires confidence when another 100m needs to be spent this year.

You've already forgotton. I like it.

Tony Book: League Cup.

Malcolm Allison, Tony Book, John Bond, John Benson, Billy McNeill, Jimmy Frizzell, Mel Machin, Tony Book, Howard Kendall, Peter Reid, Tony Book, Brian Horton, Alan Ball, Asa Hartford, Steve Coppell, Phil Neal, Frank Clark, Joe Royle, Kevin Keegan, Stuart Pearce, Sven-Göran Eriksson, Mark Hughes: Fuck All.

Liverpool have to get it right, & quite quickly, before a gap develops & they find themselves in that no-man's land where they can't get to the Champion's League to generate cash/exposure & can't sign anyone good enough to get them into the Champion's League because they're not in the Champion's League.

A situation which (ironically) they helped create in the first place.

Liverpool have approached Martinez for talks according to the BBC. Wigan have confirmed.

I'm glad Martinez gets his big chance.. but I kind of wanted to see bit more misery for Liverpool for a while and I was hoping for some sort of silly recruitment

Whoever they get, any recovery ain't gonna be easy, nor quick. you'll get your wish about their misery. Martinez will do a good job but only if they give him time. Scousers and patience aren't good partners.

Will certainly be a more likeable face of the club if it happens. I'm a little surprised about this approach though. Martinez seems like the kind of an appointment to build something over the course of several years, whereas the owners are (understandably) desperate for CL football as soon as possible.
