I see Stuart Brennan reckons so anyway.Have City said anything official on the matter?

I searched Mcfc for news on Michael Johnson and the latest article about Michael Johnson was actually about the former olympic athelete appearing at City square a while back.

Manchester City confirm that Michael Johnson was released before Christmas
http://www1.skysports.com/football/news ... -Christmas

Manchester City have revealed that they released midfielder Michael Johnson from his contract before Christmas.

The 24-year-old was tipped for a bright future after bursting out of the club's academy system and into the senior set-up, but has seen a succession of injuries severely hamper his progress.

Johnson has become something of a forgotten man as a result, with his last appearance for City coming way back in 2009.

His last competitive outing came for Leicester during a loan spell in 2011/12, but once again he saw injury prevent him from shining at the second tier club.

Johnson broke into the first team at City at the age of 18 in 2006, and was quickly billed as an England international in waiting.

Liverpool were also credited with holding an interest in his services, leading City to offer him a lucrative five-year contract in 2009.

He was, however, to see a series of problems, including a ruptured cruciate ligament, prevent him from fulfilling his promise at the Etihad Stadium

Johnson made just three starts for Leicester in the Championship last season before injury forced his loan deal to be cut short and he found himself in trouble away from the field - as he was twice arrested for drink-driving.

City have now confirmed that the 24-year-old left their books in December, without an official parting of ways being announced.

I can't but feel sorry for him.He did come back from injury and played for us in the FA Cup and also scored a goal. It seems he was injured again but came back and played for Leicester but was unlucky to get injured again. What happened afterwards in his personal life is somehow to be expected after going through a long period filled with disappointments.
I still remember fondly his partnership with Elano in our midfield during Sven's reign. A real shame.

So sad MJ's career has come to this, I saw him play against Villa on Hughes city managerial debut a few years back and he was heads and shoulders above everyone that day, the world at his feet, literally a matter of weeks later it was all over for him.

Very very sad. He could have been a special talent, what a waste.

Great post!

About sums it up for me. I had high hopes and am sad (for City and MJ) that they have not been realised. Pissing it up the wall has comedy value if you then come around and rise from the wreckage....otherwise is the sign (usually) of some deeper issues which don't put up the boundaries of "I shouldn't do this". Anyone who doesn't have that self-preventative measure embedded in them lacks it invariably due to something unpleasant in their life.

Will he have recieved some sort of injury compenation too? I just think it'll be sad if he doesnt use what hes earned to invest and have a comfortable life. Also I wonder if Paul Lake has ever spent any time with him.

Just watched that goal against Derby on Youtube. Such a waste.

Saying that. his form was way off the boil come the start of the next season. I recall a few days after he signed his new contract we played FC Midtjylland away and he was awful. One of their players tackled him and went to shake his hand and Johnston just made the money sign with his hands in front of him. It was one of the clearest acts of being a dickhead I had ever seen on a football pitch. I think the general opinion on here at the time was that he thought he was already a big time Charlie. He may have fucked up his career minus the injuries.

What a load of shit.

Would you be so understanding if he hit someone you knew while pissed up at the wheel? I don't need to live his life to know he's a cunt for doing it.

Yes. There's no excuse for drinking and driving. It's not ok. But... Then again, you've been on his case for quite a while, even before those reported incidents, so fans like you might have caused him to loathe himself so much that he didn't care anymore. I'm not saying that you're to blame for the accidents but I am saying that... I mean... I don't even know what I want to say about this. I just feel that if you look at that picture... he looks like he probably hates himself enough to make up for 5 times the grief he's gotten in this forum. Leave him be.

Is all I'm saying. Kicking on somebody that's down isn't very cricket.

I wish I could tell you how I did it but I can't. I thought for all the world that Mario was going to have a go himself but he just moved it on one more and it fell at my feet and I just thought: 'Hit the target, hit it as hard as you can and hit the target.' And it went in."
