Alex Sapphire wrote:Concentrating on the league as this was our pot and we've not defended it, I'd make the following comparisons:

Drawn games: so far we have drawn 3 more games accounting for most of the gap. I put this down to us not scoring when we dominate, and then getting mugged. And not having a lock-picker or poacher on the bench often enough.

Goals scored: we look like we will fall 15-20 short of last season's tally. The much hated Dzeko has done his bit with the minutes he's had, Tevez has contributed more games and goals, and the midfield has pitched in with more or less the same number. Sergio has had a less effective season from a goalscoring p.o.v. and Mario's goals been missed

Goals conceded: broadly the same and the best defense in the league, so maybe the tinkering didn't hurt too much in the long run. Nasty has fitted in well and Kolo and Joleon have been more than good enough when called upon. Happier when Gael is at LB.

Losses: we've lost to top sides (Scum and Spurs this time, Chelski and Arse last time) as well as to our bogey teams (Toffees and Mackems). Swap Swans for Saints and our record looks the same. Unless we get beaten again.

Fortress Etihad: 2 of the extra draws (so far) were at home, We replaced Sunderland with Everton (fuckin bogeys) and added Arse and Scouse, so not impossible to see how that might happen.

"THEM": they mugged us for 3 points at ours (Nasri you ponce). They've also learned and strengthened. And of course they still enjoy the fear factor.

Injuries:
Zabba has HAD to be a giant as our other RBs have been out
Scum have been less unlucky and we've been more unlucky with injuries this time

Squad: Nigel has been a miss, and the new recruits haven't made a significant impact going forward. It's hard to imagine that if we'd had more world class attacking options that we couldn't have turned those draws into wins

Bottom line: we're scoring less and if we knew how to beat Everton and Sunderland home and away and if Nasri had stood still, we'd be 3 points behind in spite of that and we'd all be having a great run in.

Vincent Kompany has cost us more points this season than Nasri.

Let's not be singling out players or we could be here all day and I'd be right....cause I can argue a vague point better than anyone here.

Agree with Slim on Kompany yesterday, who was poor for both of the first 2 goals, and factually probably has cost us more pts than Nasri too over the season too.

On this season, it could (hopefully) end with a 2nd place finish and the FA Cup; given some of the utter tripe Ive watched following City since 1977, I would still have settled for that had you offered it to me at the seasons start. Yes we wanted the League & to do more in Europe, but we still have a chance to lift a very tangible piece of silverware, and finish comfortably in a CL spot again without the need for a late season scramble.

Next season we do need to put up a more credible challenge in both the domestic & CL campaigns, and with a few sensible additions we surely will. However a 2nd place finish and potential FA Cup win does not a crisis make.

should we really be judging Nasri on how many points he's cost us?

Nope, but Nasri and Dzeko are the designated club whipping boys it seems. Nasri's actually been quite decent this past month and I for one wouldnt think of selling him. Dzeko though is a goner for sure, and clearly he knows it judging by his body language yesterday - maybe someone told him all the Cavani rumours that floated about in the past 24 hours.

If City win a trophy and finish top two then the season has been a success. The history books will still show a trophy a year.

When City get the Premier League back next year it will show sustained success, especially if Mancini throws in the Rumbelows cup to make up for this year.

We also got a glimpse of how good Bale, is with space and time. Kompany was done by a pass only Bale, could make and a finish of the highest quality. Slagging Vinny is not giving credit to one of the passes of the season he took out 5 players for a tap in.

agreed. nasri has redeemed himself and deserves to stay. needs to work on his fitness, however, because he always fades away after 50-60 min.

The pass was good but seriously Kompany should have got to that. I think bale would be a bad idea for city with mancini currently in charge.

I have to admit I've wanted to punch Mancini at times and even suggested we should repalce him in the summer.
However looking at who we'd get in to replace him.. winning percentages age etc. The fact remains that we are on course for another cup.. 3 in 3 years and he has a years grace imo. I think we have to give him another shot at the title and europe.

The only other manager who'd do it for us is Mourinho but he wouldnt stay too long then we'd be looking again. Ancelotti has been mentioned but although his win percentages are similar to Mancini hes older and had longer as a manager.. yet Mancini is close to him in the trophy haul department. Klopps another name but theres nothing to say he wouldnt come here and then need a couple of seasons to get us going in his own fashion.

We need to give Mancini another year.

I have as you have seen it a dozen times, it is a sublime pass to good for any defender or keeper to cut out,TBH Bale is getting to the point for me he looks like a must have player, quiet for most of the game, on fire when it counted. Add him to our team and we would be beyond the rags and most of Europe. Our owners must be seriously interested in him.

I much prefer going for cups and the league than battling against the drop but it still doesnt make me any less disappointed with a lot of the season.

Too many fuck ups from top to bottom really and i hope that next season we correct said problems and push on.

In the mean time win that pissin cup.

YEP The one at Wolves away was a great pass, Bale just offers direct access to and beyond a back 4 from almost anywhere on the pitch. Bale in a City shirt is something I was not arsed about..... now he is a must have, coz if the rags get him he is bad news every time we play them for years. We have great players, Bale will add pace power and more goals plus THE MISSING width, NO BRAINER.

Can we all agree no matter our opinions on the season that if Mancini bottles the cup final he's a fucking goner?

I think that probably would happen but it's the players rather than the manager who'll need a good kicking if we lose that match.

You can always say that. You could argue that Vincent lost us points Sunday but I would argue as much as I cursed him it's Mancini where the bucks stops and he did nada.

The modern meaning of success is CL qualies. Ask anyone to do with Arsenal. We're too successful !
