It's all about options..
Aguero
Jovetic
Dzeko
Negredo
As Striker options go, that for me is the best in the league. Two out and out, proven, 1 in 2 poachers in Negredo and Dzeko and two more skillful young creative forwards in Aguero and Jovetic. Covers us beautifully with quality in case of injurys and fatigue. All four will play many games, all four have solid temperments and won't kick up.
Shrewd signings.
I see where you're coming from but just can't help but feel like Dubciteh on this one
I see where he is coming from too, but in all honesty we will be playing a first XI along the lines of this next year,
----------------Hart-------------
--Zabba--- Vinnie-----Nasti-----Clichy
-----Fernandinho---------Yaya-------
---Navas -----Silva------ Jovetic--
---------------Aguero--------------
With possible rotations of;
----------------Hart/Panti-------------
--Micah/Zabs-- Vinnie/Garcia-----Lescott/Nasti----Kolarov/Clichy
-----Garcia/Rodwell---Barry/Milner-----
---Nasri/Silva/Navas---Jovetic/Yaya--- Aguero/Milner/Sinclair--
---------------Dzeko/Negredo/Aguero--------------
So many options it is ridiculous really...
Negredo is likely, a third or fourth choice option, depending on performance he could go higher.
But having a player of his quality as a fourth choice, is a massive coup for us. Our rivals cannot boast such options.
Interesting that although we have the influence of Tricky & the academy plan for 4-3-3, and passing football, Pellegrini is smart enough, (as was Mancini after the initial Stoke experience), to realise that this is the Premier League & that a good percentage of players are big & some are athletic; a team of clever dwarves is going to get seriously mugged on a number of occasions.
Kept Dzeko, signed Jovetic? Negredo ?: aerial strength in attack and defence. Fernandinho & Navas: pace & athleticism (Fern is also good in the air).
Pellegrini is clearly not going to just play as a Barca tribute, but adapt it for the Prem, & try to combine class football with strength, pace & power as I hoped he would.
When we were linked with Isco, Thiago & Navas, I was starting to worry just slightly, especially if Dzeko went, that The Count was after Barca type players we could end up With the Count trying to be Pep MKII rather than doing his own thing & just keep getting done at corners. Then everyone would hang Tricky for making him do it, which he isn't; it's just the academy that tricky has rules for.
We have targeted players who look like they will play together & give us different options for the same areas. Even Negredo & Dzeko. Negredo is a central player, Dzeko wanders. They are both good in the air & score goals, but they are not the same player.
All of these players, are people who think they are good enough to be at the very top, but have not had the chance to prove it. They are hungry.
You can add Rodwell from lastyear to that & Garcia if he ever gets his shit together. Both could become like new signings.
The only question is whether the Count is upto the Prem. He has the best squad to work with.
