Put Joe back on centre stage and we'll all be shouting "it's behind you" again and again and again when he's wondering what happened to the ball.

I like the line of banter Spurge but fact is that Joe was dropped because he kept losing games for us and, love him as I'm sure we all do, we can't afford to rely of a keeper who has a tendency towards comedy capers in every second game he plays.
Costel makes it look simple rather than spectacular but his stats make the case for him and that's why he's kept the green jersey on merit.
If we had De Gea and the rags had Hart, we'd be top with a 9 point lead and they'd be in 12th place - that's the difference between a 'good' keeper and a 'top class' keeper - 12 places - think about it.

You are assuming the replacement comes in and is Cinderella to our two ugly sisters. There are no guarantees and I'm not seeing obvious replacements to be honest. I don't have a problem with Costel keeping Joe out - I don't see the need for a new keeper which is what the thread is all about.

Cant believe so many fans writing off Joe Hart. He was one of the main reason we won the league 18mths ago, some people have short memories. If we can get him to play like he did then we will have no problem. He can do it.

Well I agree with you then Spurge as I'd like us to keep 'em both if we have the choice.

What I was trying to get across was that Joe may well decide that he needs to leave if he can't unseat Costel but that we won't be able to buy an established world class keeping with whatever we get for Joe (IF he leaves) because Joe isn't good enough to command that sort of money.

Kolarov has been better than Clichy this season. The end.

Ultimately Costel is not the answer.Joe deserved to be dropped no doubt about it but he's easily the better goalkeeper.I think at this stage Joe should get his place back in the side and hopefully can come back better from this experience.

On the whole you are probably right. Both have had about two decent games each & been average to shit the rest of the time, only difference being; when Clichy played in the settled defence with Lescott as the left sided cb, he was pretty good most of the time, wheras when Kolarov played in said back four, he was usually dogshit & we usually got beat.

Therefore, out of two fairly hopeless left backs over the last 8 to 12 months, one has previous for being good, the other has no record of being good whatsoever apart from a couple of games this season, either side of which, the same shite resurfaced.

If Kolarov was to produce a decent level of performance between now & May, there would be an argument for keeping him, above Clichy. But there is a stronger argumment already for getting rid of both.

So you think that Joe had good distribution in 2011/12, that he could deal with crosses and command his defence?
I'm not going to prattle on about all the games we've lost due to his comedy capers but the fact is that we play a more open game now and what he was in 2011/12 isn't good enough for us now even if he could replicate that form.

Joe did great for us for a while, then didn't do so well for a while.

Re coming out of the box, the main difference between Joe doing it & Neuer/Arse keeper doing it was they were a bit luckier; both got it wrong ish, but escaped by the skin of their teeth. Add in a daft cb or a bit of a dodgy bounce & both could have ended up looking just like JH did.

To me both our current keepers have the potential to lose us one or more trophies - and one may already have done so.

So if we want to be the best team in Europe, the best team in the world - forget centre backs, left backs and midfielders - we need a top goalie in January. Word on the journo street (Sunday Supp) is that Pellegrini doesn't really fancy Hart long term, whilst after Saturday I'm not sure anyone could fancy the giant one.

Anyone agree?

Definitely not.

Joe is an excellent keeper and Panti will go on to be a very useful one somewhere a bit lower down the ladder. I can see the latter becoming an established #1 at a mid-table club in the not-too-distant future.

Joe has played hundreds of games for us and excelled in the majority of them. A top club would snap him up double fast if we made him available.

don't think we should get rid of hart ... but I also don't think he's ready to come back in. In the couple of return appearances he's made ... he hasn't been particularly awesome.

I'm impressed with Pelli having the balls to stand by Panti, and i'm surprised that there hasn't been more of a nasty backlash for benching hart ... that tells me that other people had started to question his ability as well, in the media and elsewhere. Confidence is a tricky thing, I hope Joe can get his back ... but I don't think it's there yet.

YOu could assess it like this: he's given Hart a big run, had a look at him. He's given Panti a big run, had a look at him. Now he's thinking 'fuck me get me a top keeper'.

Hart is a top keeper thou. All keepers suffer a slump at some stage, we/he just need to ride it out. If we sold Hart, there is no doubt in my mind it (and he) would come back to haunt us big time in the future

Couldn't care less who we have in goal for us.

If Hart and Pantelimon both want to move out, we should let them go and make a tidy profit on the deals.

'Keepers are 'ten-a-penny' and we can pick one up relatively cheaply whenever we want because it's all about priorities :- if we're going to spend big amounts in January (or whenever), we need to spend it on more forwards.

We've got to strengthen our attack, both in order to keep up our formidable scoring rate and as a hedge against our existing players getting injured (Aguero) or losing form.

If we get the forwards (and midfielders) we need, we can play any assorted duffers in defence and between the posts and, in the final analysis, it won't really matter.

Re the chat some of us were having concerning keepers' ability to pass the ball, I've a feeling that Hart's future, along with the defenders' will be down to how well he adapts to the passing game.

Re English qualified players, we should fuck off people such as Kolarov & Garcia & replace them with English qualified players of the same, or better standard.

Squad players should not be using up our quota in the future. Same with Pantillimon.

Re: squad players, couldn't agree more.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?
