At the time of any passing or tragedy its right and proper to show respect and also on the 1st anniversary. However, how long does it go on...Hillsborough and Munich are prime examples, I dont see the glasgow tragedy or Bradford fire getting the same coverage... anyway thats my whinge done, Bah Humbug

Well this is our first league cup final since he died. If it gets done again next year, I'll agree with you

anyone able to recall what our center back pairings have been recently in this cup?

even though Pellegrini rates Demichelis (for whatever reason) might we see Lescott due to simple rotation in the cup, like with Costel over Joe?

Im leaning towards a lineup of:

Panti
Zaba VK Lescott Clichy
Garica Fern
Nasri Yaya Silva
Negredo

with Aguero coming on at the half or shortly after.
I'm not really a City fan. I'm just here for attention.

Yay!!!!!! Finally I can start to get excited about this. Was going to have to miss it as no one at work would swap my shift but have called in a favour and can now be home for two!!!!!!!!!!!

All I want is which ever team to go out there hungry for the win. No half arsed thoughts that we'll just turn up to win this. Go out to win it with passion and desire and Pellers bags his first cup!!!!

Interested (and of course this only applies to those of a certain generation) re the memories of those that went to the '76 final.

My highlights were:

1/ Me and my mate setting off early to walk to the motorway junction to thumb a lift - can you just imagine that nowadays!!

2/ A small van pulled over with some gorgeous (well that is how my memory has it) girls - all worked at the same place I think and gave us a lift (nothing untoward - despite how my memory would like to embellish it) - just great company and had some beers.

3/ Peter Barnes goal - fell over celebrating and suffered from several people staying on their feet and not realising I had not!!

4/ Of course Tueart's goal - although our view was not great

5/ Most clear in my mind was when waiting near the van for the lift back the biggest Geordie bastard that has probably ever lived came out of an alley, zipping himself up and breathing fierce beer fumes from several feet away. He walked straight up to me and asked if I was a CITY fan?

Only in the aftermath of the Law backheel, which included hospital visits but is another story, have I ever before or since wnated to deny the fact - but the several scarves, badges and hat rendered that pointless. So I whimpered yes - and his answer lives with me to this day (through gritted teeth and beer fumes) "..... good game - but if you were a United fan I would fucking eat yer...." before shuffling off - his unintentional shoulder barge as he staggered past was enough to make me realise just what damage he could have done to me

Thankfully - sort of - life as a fan moved on

So apparently every manager sincd 2007, bar Fergie, has been fired one season after winning the League Cup. I hope Pellegrini bucks the trend

shit stat.

Taggart won it twice and wasn't, and Mourinho is back in the job
Between them they also won it the 3 years before this "random period" and kept their jobs

So since 2004:

Dalglish got the push because this Cup wasn't enough for Scouse 1
McLeish because he let Brum go down on him
Ramos because he should never have had the job

Laudrop is the one that seems harsh
Never criticise a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes.
That way when you do criticise him you'll be a mile away.
And you'll have his shoes.

This is mainly because recently top sides played weakened teams in the LC so it was won by outsiders. More relevant to Pellegrini would be he number of manages who won the LC and finished in the top three who were then sacked.

I think that there will be only a few posters on here of an age for it to be a significant memory - consider yourself lucky to be younger.

The mind is strange though - I was at a family gathering recently and was recounting some story that I remember vividly when my sister pointed out that I could not possibly remember the detail as I was only 3 at the time. Seemingly, having heard my siblings tell the story many times in the past ( I am the youngest of 4) I have burnt it into my own memory.

I remember it fairly well, I was 8 at the time and although that kind of puts me into the 'old' bracket I was half your age which sounds good and makes me feel quite young. I also bought the vinyl 'LP' of this game, which is essentially radio commentary highlights.
