I personally dont think its a good idea about the applause, its sitting on the coat tails of the villa, or even the scousers who always have something to mourn. Why dont we just carry on as normal? I am not being awful about it, I just think its stupid to continue doing all this type of shit all the time. At the time of any passing or tragedy its right and proper to show respect and also on the 1st anniversary. However, how long does it go on...Hillsborough and Munich are prime examples, I dont see the glasgow tragedy or Bradford fire getting the same coverage... anyway thats my whinge done, Bah Humbug

My highlights were:
1/ Me and my mate setting off early to walk to the motorway junction to thumb a lift - can you just imagine that nowadays!!
2/ A small van pulled over with some gorgeous (well that is how my memory has it) girls - all worked at the same place I think and gave us a lift (nothing untoward - despite how my memory would like to embellish it) - just great company and had some beers.
3/ Peter Barnes goal - fell over celebrating and suffered from several people staying on their feet and not realising I had not!!
4/ Of course Tueart's goal - although our view was not great
5/ Most clear in my mind was when waiting near the van for the lift back the biggest Geordie bastard that has probably ever lived came out of an alley, zipping himself up and breathing fierce beer fumes from several feet away. He walked straight up to me and asked if I was a CITY fan?
Only in the aftermath of the Law backheel, which included hospital visits but is another story, have I ever before or since wnated to deny the fact - but the several scarves, badges and hat rendered that pointless. So I whimpered yes - and his answer lives with me to this day (through gritted teeth and beer fumes) "..... good game - but if you were a United fan I would fucking eat yer...." before shuffling off - his unintentional shoulder barge as he staggered past was enough to make me realise just what damage he could have done to me
Thankfully - sort of - life as a fan moved on

Do ya know, I was 5 years old at the time and have no real connection with that day but in my mind I remember it as if it was part of my life.
Strange.
