That's a tad harsh, wishing an injury on the lad before he's even played.

Still, if he's signed, it's Madiera cake all round.

That's a very reasonable fee, works out at around 12m pounds.

Just popped up on the City app that it's official he's signed. No picture with a shirt yet, so I'm still dubious...

Yes it's official. He is on holiday in Brazil so we will get the interview and pictures etc when he joins the squad for pre-season, shirt number 6

City are delighted to announce the signing of Brazilian midfielder Fernando.

The 26-year-old will join the Club from Porto and will wear the number six shirt next season.

A defensive midfielder by trade, he began his career at Vila Nova in Brazil before moving to Porto in 2007 where he won four Primeira Liga titles, two Portuguese Cups and a Europa League medal.

His first European season was spent on loan to fellow Portuguese side Estrela da Amadora, where he gained important playing experience as an undisputed starter. He returned to Porto the following season and immediately cemented his place in the squad.

Fernando, who will join up with his new team-mates for pre-season training in a fortnight, said: “I am so happy to finally be joining Manchester City.

“I know there was talk of me possibly signing last January so I am delighted that the deal has now been done and that I am a City player.

“I’m looking forward to meeting my new team-mates and helping City to defend the title. It is a very exciting time to be part of this football club and I cannot wait to play in the Premier League.

“City fans can be assured I will give my all every time I play and I’m looking forward to many happy years in Manchester.

“I have enjoyed my stay with Porto and I thank the club and the fans for their support during my time in Portugal. Now I am ready for a new chapter in my career.”

Fernando is currently on holiday in his native Brazil, and CityTV will bring you the first exclusive interview with the new signing as soon as he arrives into the UK.

So glad this is over the finishing line. He's tall strong and mobile so could probably play centre back on occasion but the biggest difference will be to what we see from Fernandinho. He's the complete midfielder and he'll show it next season I'm sure freed from so much defensive duties. In the big League and CL matches in particular our midfield will be formidable. As Goncalo Lopes put it Fernando Fernandinho and Yaya. Wow!

Bargain price too.

Hart
Zaba VK CB LB
Fernando
Yaya Fern
Nasri Silva
Aguero

I guess we're going to a 1 striker system. Means much less playing time for Dzeko, Negredo, and Jovetic.

Let's be realistic. He won't be.

Considering how people were questioning Fernandinho almost from his first game I'm not too optimistic about him being given time.

Thought I hadn't seen you on in a while. Certainly spending less time myself on here too, good to know you're still with us!

Excited by this signing I must say. If Yaya stays, great. If he goes or is injured or goes to th ACON, we have a replacement. A top notch centre back and we are sorted
