Using that kind of logic you could say Pele is good enough for the current Brazil team

You're only as good as your last game, as they say, otherwise going off stats, you may as well put Charlton and Lineker up front and Sterling wouldn't get a game until someone else retired

No you couldnt, that is just ridiculous, Rooney is still in both in the England side and in the Premier League, his achievements have all been relatively recent.

Rooney isnt stinking the place out, he wasnt good enough played out of position, therefore he should be played where he is proven to be effective.

I personally would put Rooney in the number 10 role behind Sturridge and put Sterling on the left as you'd get much more out of Rooney and Sterling is proven to be excellent on the left too.

You may not like the lad for who he plays for but some of us can see past the fact that he is a red twat and appreciate that he is the best we have, some of us can't, and these people are pathetic little pricks who need to give their head a wobble.

I will never support or cheer on Rooney, I will never celebrate when he scores, but I can't slag off the lad and call for his head when it isnt deserved.

Rooney could decapitate someone and the most the media would say would be that he should have used a gun.

Even after his latest horrendous performance, the furthest anyone seems prepared to go is to politely suggest he would be better down the middle. The English media are the 21st Century's version of the Politburo. No one dares to go against the Party line.

He played centrally at least once during the warm up games and stank every bit as much as when out of position.
Also, are you telling me that starting out wide led to him missing two golden chances to score? (He was in a central position for both of those chances against Italy by the way - and he had to steal the ball off a team mate for one of them since he had spent almost the entire game running around like a toddler in the park chasing the ball to no effect whatsoever when Italy had it). People are making too many excuses for him and he is living off his reputation.

Get your tongue out his arse. Most his goals for England have been against crap teams. He has never scored at the world cup. Right now he's shit.

What I found interesting but not talked about much by the media, or on here, was the reaction to when he scored in the friendly against Ecuador. Even though he fluffed it a bit it was Ricky Lambert who set that goal up and should've scored it. Both players went for it a yard out but Rooney's foot got there a milli-second before Lambert's did, flicking it into the goal.

The reaction that followed was quite wierd in that he punched the air in delight but didn't even acknowledge Lambert's part in the goal and it was Lambert who actually went to Rooney. It may not sound much but it said an awful lot to me to where Rooney's mentality is at.

And that goal was supposed to be the ending of the drought, moving him forward for the big games. Instead, it just seemed to make his head bigger and reinforced my thoughts that he is interested in nothing more than himself. Not England, not the Rags, not his team mates, just himself.
In the words of my Old Man, "Life will never be the same without Man City, so get it in while you can".

regardless of the teams. Most of them were friendlies and qualifiers. It is safe to say england would have qualified for these tournaments without him.

How many goals has he had for england in the last ten years in the euros and world cups? One? Not including that 2004 one that the media wank over.

If memory serves, 1-0 at home, Geovanni scoring a pearler. 2-1 away, shoulder of Benjani and pinball wizard Vassell scoring, Carrick for them perhaps?

Thanks. I was pretty sure but I've the memory if an 86 year old, mix that with an ability to block out nearly any goal we concede.

I like all this Rooney slaughtering. Could do with Van Persie missing a couple & getting sent off.

Hopefully Costa will remain Corradi MKII, Suarez will become Public Enemy No1 & Hazard will end the tournament a broken man.

And Gerrard will suffer a crisis of confidence but decide he has to fight through it by hitting no less than 19 long balls per game for Liverpool when he gets home.
