Blatter resigns

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

He knew his time was up and continued the election to ensure time was right to sort out his books. Great news for football, in the short term, a real fight out in the long.

Four to five months to elect a successor, really, and then you get a role to clean this up!

Don't fuck with royalty, don't fuck withvbig international politics, you septic cunt!

Good fucking riddance.

He's not being investigated by the FBI, they've said so.

It's only good news depending on who takes over from him. If it's some UEFA cunt I wouldn't hold my breath. Don't know anything about this prince but if an election is won by a prince I doubt it bodes well. I think it should be Tony Blair, he's stuck for a sinecure at the moment.

There's a Swiss investigation which is ongoing as well as the American one - it's completely possible the Americans pointed the Swiss in the right direction with something that was out of their jurisdiction if they were unable to get him themselves. Time will tell..

Indeed. There are now reports that the Americans are directly investigating him.

This.

There's six months of campaigning before the vote, so no need to worry yet. Also, Blatter may be going, but the system that elected him, where every association has a vote, remains. I can't see UEFA establishment figures like these two getting many African or Asian votes. The winner will be whoever can pick up a substantial part of Blatter's support.

But that wouldn't get support of the anti-Blatter camp. Solution will be a non-European who UEFA trust to not screw them. Where you find an honest person though is debatable.

Why would anyone assume UEFA would be backing an honest candidate.

I don't think any of the voters are interested in an honest candidate. Africans and Asians won't trust the EUFA mob to look after their interests, EUFA wants influence to reflect the money they generate etc. it's like voting for the Pope! So maybe a South American ?

As long as that South American wasn't Brazilian - they've been in Blatter's back pocket for years. Not to mention the fact they had a world cup recently which automatically flags warning signs to me.

He's, apparently, re-considering his position as he'd not "formally" issued his notice of resignation and he, supposedly, is going to discuss the matter with his fellow Board members.

It's almost as though he's now thinking of staying within the 'fold', in order to get his own snout in the trough when all the current excitement dies down..........

It is one massive job to sort out the almighty mess FIFA is in. IF that world cup in qatar goes ahead the legacy of that world cup alone will go on for years. it could take FIFA at least 15 years to recover.

No sure what the legal implications are but i would imagine the qatar outfit / fa / government/ whoever they are will put up some fight to keep it there.

As I've said in other threads, the financial implications to Qatar of not holding the world cup there now, due to the investment in infrastructure relating to the world cup would sink FIFA financially. The only possible defence would be to say that the Qataris were guilty of bribery, but South Africa, Brazil, Russia, Qatar were all bought and paid for, so they will most likely have to draw a line under what's happened in the past, compensate the leagues and broadcasters (which will be cheaper than compensating Qatar for the several $bn wasted infrastructure investment), and run with what is already agreed.

I agree with sparty its a case of drawing a line under all of this and looking to the future. In the end the sheer brazen greed of these arseholes has brought them down, a sensible crook would have reigned him/herself in when it was looking like the whole football calendar was going to be fucked with just so people could watch games of football in the desert. Obviously the English, Aussies and Yanks werent willing to pay the going rate. The entire organisation needs restructuring and this includes how world cups are awarded.
As a footnote it made me smile seeing Adidas' statement...getting all concerned with the image of the game all of a sudden. They were the prime movers in all this shit kicking off under Havelange, they brokered so much of it... and they have a nerve if they think people dont know about this.

its obvious the Qatar bid was corrupt, no one in their right mind would have voted for it unless they were coerced into doing so with some sort of arm twist. Its just ridiculous to even entertain the notion of holding it in the middle of a season. Its only a matter of time before a revote is held and greenland wins it.

I really wont want another Blatter (clean or not), I would like a democratic committee who vote on the way forward. We dont need a single megalomaniac at the helm, we need a sensible group.

Nice.

I think Gill is posturing and trying to re-invent/portray himself as a beacon of virtuous conduct and high principles.

The trouble is, the media are fully geared up to promoting this misconceptual sham and the average football fan in this country will probably swallow it hook, line and sinker, without a second thought.

It's probably only City fans who appreciate what an evil, odious charlatan this Scum swine actually is.
