I reckon our guys might be worried that Pep is on his way to another meltdown.

Or we might just want to show him that we have options.

Exactly. Another option should he end up in the asylum.

No real downside to this. We retain the classiest manager in the Premier League by some distance. A proven winner with a great track record with us. If we wish to change the manager for whatever reason then Pellegrini either gets a deserved pay off or some sort of 'upstairs' role in the City group.

Should shut some of the media up, not all of them I would've thought, but enough to ease the pressure. I am a fan of this

I reckon this was done to make the papers quiet and also make the players settle no doubt Pep is coming in at the end of the season this deal will be pellers pay off.

Thats exactly why this was done.

One less story of made up bullshit for them to be able to write.

Plus has others have said it will provide some stability for certain players.

same. I'm still torn about how i feel about Pep. He's sort of like a "Hindu Mourinho" imho. I'm not sure if that's good, or not. Is he a great coach? I dunno...These managers who only ever work with the best in the world are sometimes only ever truly "great" in that one environment they did it in. Has Pep been world class at Bayern? I dunno. He's done the basics and not fucked it up, too much. Yawn.

cheers

This is worryingly odd; I actually agree with one of Doomie's posts and he's encapsulated quite accurately how I feel towards Guardiola.

The walls of Jericho might be in danger of falling down.

However, with regard to Pellegrini's new contract, in addition to the other aspects of it, I wonder if this will now give him the 'security' (both psychological, as well as financial) to start selecting and playing a goodly number of our youngsters in this new season ??

We've got to start sometime, so why not now ??

Perfectly timed by the club, shut up shop and withhold everything we can from the press. Let them spin around D and around untill they make themselves sick with their own bullshit. The players have to work and we have some sort of stability at the helm.

Funny how I said I wanted this a couple of months ago and now it's happened. I must be an ITK and I didn't even know it.

Great move by the club, I was worried we might have players coasting this season knowing the change was coming. Bet certain individuals are rethinking that strategy now.

Gives de bruyne and anyone else we sign the idea they are signing for the manager they'll actually be playing for as well.

I guess this is a kick in the teeth for the ITK whose name escapes me who told us all earlier this year that the Count was gone and that the team had already been told......................

Delighted for Pellers. The man is a breath of fresh air compared with the behaviour of the other big clubs manager’s.

Just turn on Sky Sports news and listen to the sh8te that Mourinho, Wenger and Brenda go on with!!

Brilliant move by the club, because imagine the gauntlet hanging over his, and the players', heads the entire season if this had not been done, despite the possibility that he may well be replaced before his contract expires anyway.

It's a head-tweaking that may likely inspire hope and confidence, and results, in the short term.

Also, there could have also been a thought to the possibility of Peller's potential successor not being too keen in taking over a club that may be out of CL contention, unless he would be willing to take on such a challenge like butthead did.

I was concerned about the "lame duck" situation so this news came as a great relief to me. Just got up at 4am to watch the game and after a long weekend away this was news I hadn't seen and really gave my expectations a lift after a moderate pre season. The deal just being two years keeps the clubs options open too if Pep is being non-committal.

This doesn`t mean anything if Pep wants to come here next season, only for Manuel to get a better pay when he leaves..

There is no doubt in my mind its a message to the players and strengthens his hand. To be fair to him he's always been fairly tough. He dropped Joe, kept Kompany out sensibly and Zab. Ya Ya is the key to this team, hence the current love fest coming from Pellers. The problem has always been that if Ya Ya doesn't try we are fucked. Hopefully cake and cuddles will work all season.
