Normally the broadcaster just turns the sound off - Oliver was obviously primed as was the media. No excuse though.

I always felt that the Munich anniversary was different.
I never remember us saying something bad about that or acting like cunts, but again, not being english I might have missed something.

We lost Frank Swift also, might be that

Maybe it's just me and my misinformed youth but I firmly remember our fans (and teenage me) giving it aeroplane gestures any minute we got the chance. Frank swift never came into it, through ignorance absolutely. It was only when I grew up that I realised what I was doing and stopped it. But the north stand in the late 90s was full of Munich stuff.

I remember one of my first matches against United asking my dad why the United fans were doing aeroplanes. He said they were trying to goad our fans into doing it back so that they can play victim. Funnily enough I’ve noticed them doing the aeroplanes at our fans every match since then.

It was The Munich Air Disaster and, like we the majority realised, it wasn’t right - Impeccable.

And, like good adversaries, we switched to their own means, referring them as Rags instead.

I used the term munich as they built a club out of a tragedy, never honoured the dead and "sponsored" the rememberance (again to monitise)

And yes the minute silence at the swamp was silenrlt

It should have been done at Anfield, but something tells me that they get some perverse joy out of other fans disrespecting, as it paints them as the victims even more...Oh and How they LOVE being victims..

It is their Munich. I'm a Bolton boy and my parents were both on the embankment at Burnden when they suffered a disaster. Rightly remembered by the people of Bolton but they don't bang on about it at every opportunity. Bradford, Ibrox, similar. Dont agree with whistling and booing but it shouldn't be part of a semi final

Agree with this. Nothing needs to be forced on other fans. The FA knew what they were doing. Oliver was prepared beforehand. Media ready. It’s unfortunate that we played into their hands but we don’t have to respect the deaths of people we don’t know - I’ve never understood it. But that doesn’t mean we have to disrespect it either.

Hitler could die today and people would be all over social media telling others to respect his death, it’s weird. It was the same when that Jade Goodie died, people telling others to show respect. She was a horrible racist ffs! It’s a weird world we live in where we think we can tell others what they should do.

Move on.

Edit: I personally wouldn’t have booed or made noise, I’d have just waited on the concourse until it was finished.

Should we have observed the silence? Yes, absolutely, it’s incredibly disrespectful not to

Should we still have a silence? No, given the time frame and nature of the tragedy.

I personally do not condone disrespecting the minutes silence, however I have no sympathy for a fan base who made up a song thanking Shipman for killing people, amongst those murdered were both paternal grand parents and my Aunt, people from Hyde could not believe how evil and hurtful that song is.

Not forgetting their Munich chants. The next game that United played against Liverpool after Hillsborough the rag fans were chanting, “where’s your famous Munich songs?”

Cheers for that.
See, for me, the airplane gesture, which I also did here in my country often as a kid, while playing football with my mates, was "Uwe's grandad bombed the swamp". I had never thought it was about Munich.

We should not have interrupted the minutes silence no matter how we feel about the dippers victim mentality and their “light a candle” for anything that happens to them - it’s just wrong IMO .

We can vent our anger after the minutes silence with a rendition of “always the victims never your fault “ chant for the remainder of the game - that would show everyone how we feel .
THEY SAY SWEARING IS DUE TO A LIMITED VOCABULARY. I KNOW THOUSANDS OF WORDS, BUT I STILL PREFER "FUCK OFF" TO "GO AWAY"

According to reports I have read, most of the noise and singing was from City fans arriving late to their seats from the concourse area and it was this that triggered the Liverpool fans to boo loudly. This booing then forced Oliver to halt the observed silence. I have also read that the minutes silence was poorly planned in terms of advance warnings etc. Quite ironic that fans arriving late into the ground cause such a castrophy.

This. 100%. They use it as a tool. 90% of that lot don't actually give a toss about the victims. They see it as a sort of badge of honour. The way I see it is have respect for the 10% who really have been impacted by it, and don't give the 90% the opportunity to hold us to account. It's not worth the grief.

I think their fans' 'respectful' pitch invasion at the end of the '89 final doesn't get the replays it deserves - that's a perfect indicator of their fans' grief just 5 weeks after the disaster. It's visible on most videos of the final on YouTube, but tactfully edited out of the Liverpool FC channel's highlights of the game...

I don't see how you can "disrespect" it if you don't know it is happening.
