But specialist goalkeeping analyst John Harrison, who has a Cambridge astronomy PhD, believes the City keeper could have done more to keep out the strike during the enthralling 4-3 win for the home side at the Etihad Stadium

On his Twitter account, Harrison broke down step-by-step how Ederson could have better dealt with Vinicius after he made his way into the City penalty area.
He wrote: 'Ederson is usually exceptional vs close range 1v1s but he was uncharacteristically weak vs Vini.
'Ederson correctly holds deep for Vini’s first touch in the box but he needs to start closing the space once Vini takes the second touch! Waiting till the third touch is too late!'

Harrison's analysis has earned rave reviews recently, most notably from Sky Sports

Let's dig Sir Patrick Moore up and ask him as well while we are at it.

That goal was right infront of me last night in the Etihad 121 , Ederson simply gave Vinicus a huge angle to score it was terrible keeping . If he had came off his line just a couple of yards the angle would have been closed down instead of the yawning gap that was left . Edersons decision making is all over the place of late which is costing us soft goals .

Some fans just refuse to take off their fucking blue tinted specs to admit the fucking obvious .

Ederson was fucking shit yesterday

So, is Ederson shit or did he have a bad game? There is a difference between being shit and being out of form. Im happy to accept hes not on top form but that's normal for goalkeepers to go through bad patches and even a season before regain form.

James Trafford has also done very well indeed.

In Fairness to Ederson 2/4 defenders against Madrid weren't fully fit.

how in any way is that an excuse?? isn't it his job to stop shots when his defenders are beaten? look at de gea's back line ffs...they are constantly changing and utter crap but he still bails them out of jail 9 times out of 10.

de gea is not the best comparison, really. He is in the game all the time. He has a shot to save every four or five minutes due to their defence being, as you say, utter crap. Ederson can go an hour without having anything to do but make the odd pass to Stones here and there. It is a very different situation.

None of which is not to excuse him not be able to do his job, of course.

But one thing he does need is a number two that will push him. He hasn't got that at the moment.

Agreed . Steffen is done at City after yet another Wembley semi final horror show and Ederson out of form the last 2 months or so . Which begs the question what the fuck has the club goal keeping coach been getting paid for ?

Conceded least goals in premier League, on route to pick up golden gloves. Must be doing something right. I concede he's not having his best season but it could have been worst.

Using your own famous word; 'FACT'!

Its not just the gk coach though is it?, The club thought that Steffen was Ederson's understudy and with Carson as a backup, sent Trafford and Bazuna out to get a taster in the lower league. Seems to be the done thing to have a cup keeper but that's nonsense for me. We should stick with our first-choice keeper fuck messing around and then recruit a reliable, experienced kerper as no.i2 with the youngster at three.
I can see Steffen going now so presumably we will look to bring Bazuna back to get Ederson back on his toes

Their second goal wasn’t his fault. His positioning was probably all over because Laporte was hesitating to close the attacker down and Ed could probably see that. Still not sure why Laporte felt the need to not bother to close him down, after he’d looked over his shoulder and seen that Zinch had the other player marked behind Laporte.
