Say what you need about him, but he turns up, never fakes an injury. But we are talking about Phil Foden.

who did well when he came on last night and has been decent since the turn of the year

I don't think he was, mate. Except the penalty yesterday, he was terrible. Put players under unnecessary pressure with his passing, same as Arsenal when he killed our momentum with that pass.
But what annoyed me was his lack of support for Rico and Akanji. Rico was left alone with arguably the best left side in the world Mendy and the cunt.

we watched a different game then mate

I personally thought he was totally ineffective, he had one shot on target producing a routine save, one run across the edge of the penalty area trying to manufacture a shot and failed, played the ball wide and it came to nothing. Then there was the penalty, it was a foul in the box, he wasn’t going anywhere though. The rest of his play consisted of trying to stop the out ball on the right, I don’t remember him putting in the hard yards, making a stern tackle, just putting some bloody effort in. No, sorry not impressed…..great player obviously but not last night. Grealish was our man of the match and he only played a quarter of the game.

grealish motm? laughable. the pass for the opener aside, he looked heavy legged from the first minute. may well have been carrying an injury but dare i say he looks a bit fat?

Wouldn't surprise me if he was sold in the summer to chavski.

Imho.

He is not the world class player we expected him to be. He is still young, he has a fantastic record, but he is faaar too inconsistent and a level behind Dave Silva and Kevin.
I think at a club that was not City he wouldn't be better than a fit Mason Mount or Joao Felix. Again, imho, he will never be as good as Merlin and KDB, he doesn't have their football brain, the mind to see a gap to put a perfect pass.
I don't hate the fella, impossible to hate a City player, but I think he needs a proper talk. We are talking about last season, but we forget he was mediocre before his truly great form in the second part of the season. I've said it also last year, the miss in the final versus Inter was a key moment why I think he is limited.

Stat wise, he is fantastic for his age, but he is also petulant and lacks the hunger and aggressiveness to be a monster.
All because of his personal life. Or maybe this is his limit. And it's ok.

He might not fulfill his potential. He's not kicked on atall in the last few seasons. He has the world at his feet but he seems contented to just tip along at 70%. He's not giving close to 100% effort or passion.

Had a great season last time

A great player would follow it up

He didn’t and indeed has regressed considerably. Personally I think we may have seen the best of him. That’s not to say on his day he won’t turn it on. It’s just that those days are now too infrequent. His personal life seems to have got the better of him and until that shit is sorted we are going to see more anonymous games from him

As I said weeks ago and you argued, as usual - very much someone who plays in flashes, never any guarantee he will influence the game

I don’t want to lump it on Foden, with the greats no longer able to reach the levels, Rodders injury, Foden & Jack have had a season off !!

Weird that you waited until he had a bad game. Not one word said last season when he carried us to the title.

Hope you get the help you need, John.

Agreed, mate, but that is also when you step up as a world class footballer.
Maybe we looked at this and blamed 100% Pep, but in truth is that when top dogs like Kevin and Rodders were either getting old or injured, the rest did not step up to fill the gap.

The key there is "rest" we have an empty midfield and have had since September. No-one has stepped up this season, Foden included. A fair few have cried off Stones being the major one, Dias banging bimbos instead of getting and staying match fit. Grealish? Never got why we bought him. Those are major players who have all won it all. We all keep having these debates on here, but we need to crawl to the summer with a plan of what to do after Pep and implement it

Fair. He’s not kicked on though and I thought he had more about him than we have had this season. Like Grealish, Dias, dropped off.

He was literally the Prem POTY last season mate. He carried us to the title while Haaland and Kev were out for good chunks.

This season everyone is shite and you’ve got people like Gundo and Bernardo strolling around next to him. He had something like 6 goals in 5 games the other week. He can’t just carry us constantly - other players have to take responsibility.

Respect Mate, my eyes don’t lie, he’s not kicked on and we needed him to do that. That aside we are nowhere near our levels so we get battered when we face teams that go for us.
Onwards get 4th. Clear out. Pep has also got to take stock. His team need something more than just possession. Madrid outrun us beat us up and the score reflects us going backwards whilst they do what they do but with a killer upfront. Even at full throttle Madrid is 50/50 this was 90/10. Things change, peps got to change.

He was mate, but his first part of the season he was meh. Then he exploded. And looking back, he was still very inconstant. Notts pointed out what we all are thinking, we might have seen the best of him last year.
He should be in his prime, 24-29, for him will be crucial to be seen as a very top english player. I am saying that because he seem like he doesn't even try to improve his right leg, trying to solve his flaw. He is here and won everything and he is never in the captain armband talk. I saw Ake rather has it than him. It speaks volumes, if you ask me. I hope we will be proven wrong by him, but he seem he doesn't have the hunger and coldness to be that: a leader and a proper complete player. I can't blame Jackie, Gundog or Bernie because his personal life is what it is and he doesn't step up to drag his mates.
Palmer, sadly has.

And I am not saying is the end of the world, but we need to set our expectations and not make him better than he actually is.
