What the hell do they do to those poor souls at Barca!

But whereas others with the same combination of attributes, Dzeko, Milner, Nasri, Lescott, etc were clearly held to account, he never was. That is a surefire way of upsetting team spirit. Hope this season he is treated on his merits and rotated if required. Guy who can be rested against the lesser teams sometimes?

as far as im concerned yaya is the first name on the sheet for me.

I don't recall anyone criticising his passing. There were criticisms of his abilities defensively as a holding midfielder ( which I believe have some merit as it goes ), is it this that you're referring to?
There seem to be a few that say he is lazy and cannot be bothered when he gets beaten by somebody.
That IMO is not right.
The facts kind of back up the fact he is far from lazy and, also the two games where by his own standard, been below par, he was playing further foward like the people who apparently know these things say he should play.So the when he is played further up he had his worst games.
Those games against Dortmund and Arse his tackling was better than ok.
He has been a CM or DM all his career and, been pretty good at it and now people think he should be played as AM cos he can shoot.
Yaya's ball winning is as good as anybody's. If anyone comes close to him, he can win the ball from them easily. If however, he has to run after them, he will do it twice, then he'll let them go whilst he has a rest. If he's playing in a free role & he does that, it doesn't matter so much, as there will likely be cover, if however he is one of the players we are relying on to cover, it is very very dangerous.
That is a weakness in his game. Another is that he doesn't mark properly at set pieces etc.
All players have weaknesses, including Yaya. The trick is to minimise the negative effects & use the positives to our advantage.
Defensive mids need to pick up runners sometimes. Yaya does; sometimes. Then suddenly, he stops & lets the player go.
That is very very dangerous.
I agree with you Ted, but what's your view on the first part of last season when we were unstoppable and playing only Yaya and Barry in the midfield? We weren't as defensively poor we are now/were until recently. Would you put that down to the combined offensive pressure of our team hindering the opposition from going forward, or that Yaya actually did what he was supposed to?

We formed this theory that Yaya has it in his contract that - if he can walk - he plays in all PL, CL and FA cup games - every minute of!
Either that or Mancini was desperate to always play him.
Either way I agree with you about him being the most feared. Get the game won then give him a rest. He's not too hot defensively anyway, Barry breaks up more play and now it'll be Ferdy.

Surely the best way is to up the standard of play without him though ? Ifwe can be generally just as good without Yaya, then we can keep him fresh.

Ah mate you don't need tips on fishing. You just need a new forum because you've burnt yourself out on this one.
So do tell, because I just don't get why you would put an amy winehouse video in this thread. I know you have made some excellent contributions to the music thread in off topic, but this was particularly strange?
