Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola says reports in Spain that Erling Haaland's contract contains a special release clause for him to join Real Madrid in 2024 are "not true".

Speaking after the 22-year-old Norway striker had continued his incredible start at City by hitting two goals against Copenhagen in the Champions League, Guardiola denied rumours that Madrid have engineered an exclusive agreement to sign him.

"It's not true," Guardiola said. "He has not got a release clause for Real Madrid, or any other team.

"Am I annoyed by the rumours? No, absolutely not. Rumours, and people talking, you cannot control it - so always we have to worry about what we can control.

From what I've read elsewhere, "news" reports are carefully crafted to imply it's a "special Real Madrid clause", but when you read a bit deeper, the journalist has crafted it that way because Real Madrid are (probably) the only team who could afford to spend €200m on him.

That makes sense. I’m sure there is a clause in there for 2024 but when he first signed I read that one of the stipulations is that we win the CL.

If we win that and he goes I wouldn’t have a problem. Probably why City agreed to it.

There are "performance-related criteria" that activate the release clause, but I don't think it's ever been officially announced what these are; winning the CL being one is just media speculation, but sensible speculation imho.

I wouldnt put it past Haaland to do an Aguero and fall in love with City. He seems like a decent human being and we're a club of decent human beings.

Well he already sacked off an Austrian lass, because she didn’t want to talk football with him.

“All I think about is goals and a net all day long. This is why I failed my first date with an Austrian girl. During the dinner or lunch dates I would talk goals to her. Things like ‘how many goals do you think I will score tomorrow?’. She would be annoyed because she wanted me to forget about football and talk love when I am with her. But unfortunately the love I have is football. So I told her to go find a good man who plays love not football.

What I want to know is……what provisions have you made in the event that he doesn’t score a goal in a whole match ?
