agreed. altho, if we were in for him he'd cost most than Downing did.

Adam Marshall, associated with ESPN, took to Twitter today to say this,
"Reports in Italy say Alessio Cerci is finalising his move to Man City #mcfc."

Twitter is alive with reports of the move from Fiorentina being near completion for 5-7m euros
I'm not really a City fan. I'm just here for attention.

I disagree.
We don't use out and out wingers and he isn't attacking enough to play in front three of 4-3-3.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

that's fine in spirit, but don't the actual people on either side of the front three have to be able to cross a ball or is that too modern? maybe it's as ridiculous as attacking fullbacks that don't defend par example.

I think N'Zogbia would have been an excellent signing for us at £9.5Mil.

He's got real quality on the ball and operates well on both flanks.

Cracking bit of business by Villa. Downing out, N'Zogbia and £10Mil in......ta very much!
we've got love bites and everything

He isn't attacking enough - did you watch him play last season? He has pace to burn, can beat a player and has an eye for goal - would be a great addition to our squad for that price

You'd be right on both players mate.

Downing is average. A wideman cheap imitation of Gareth Barry, Villa are laughing to the bank with Liverpool's £20 million.

Nzogbia also is overrated. People rave because he takes men on, good in theory, what you want in a wideman sure, but statistically he only successfully beats his man something like 1 in 10 times. Not so good. When he gets it right he's a player.. when he gets it wrong it doesn't get the press talking. He's a bit of an enigma for this reason.

However I do believe for £9.5 million he is far better value than Downing.

Liverpool's transfer policy is utterly bonkers...

i wish we had someone who could effectively cross the ball into the box for Dzeko. i noticed a few times on Sunday where he was charging into the box expecting a cross from the wing to get his head on but either none came or the cross was dreadful. he was successful at Wolfsburg getting his head on the end of crosses. however, as has been evident for awhile, when a good cross does make its way into the box there's usually no one in the box or maybe only 1 person. seems like Dzeko doesnt mesh with the current system..just my opinion.

Said it in the Given thread but Young/Downing/Friedel out, N'Zogbia/Given/27 million in is great business.

I really like N'Zogbia as a player. Would've been happy to sign him but I'd have the same misgivings about playing him in our system.

Should write Barca about Afellay imo. Quality player who'll be behind Pedro and Sanchez. If they're desperate for Fabregas then I'm sure he'd be a much better option than the (fairly average) Cerci.

Did I watch him play last season? I've followed him closely ever since he broke through in Newcastle and if you went through my really REALLY old posts from some five six years ago, you'd find out that I was suggesting we'd sign him as he was used as fullback by Newcastle back then and thought he'd make excellent winger for us and he was available for peanuts.

So yes, I did see him. Shit, what do you think, I started following football yesterday?

And he isn't attacking enough to play on the wing on 4-3-3 and wouldn't make any sense in midfield three. So therefore he would be wasted with us. We already have Johnson and SWP struggling for a game. Horses for courses.

Also, why did you edit my post you quoted?

phips wrote:i wish we had someone who could effectively cross the ball into the box for Dzeko. i noticed a few times on Sunday where he was charging into the box expecting a cross from the wing to get his head on but either none came or the cross was dreadful. he was successful at Wolfsburg getting his head on the end of crosses. however, as has been evident for awhile, when a good cross does make its way into the box there's usually no one in the box or maybe only 1 person. seems like Dzeko doesnt mesh with the current system..just my opinion.

For better or for worse, I don't think that's what Mancini is aiming to do. It seems he has this idea of forwards playing left and right of the centerforward to mostly cut in and have a crack at goal or pass the ball on the deck. Most of our crosses came from fullbacks last season and even Micah was mostly trying to cut in. Dzeko isn't a targetman either. He is not even classic "tall feller who is surprisingly good with ball on his feet". He is pretty traditional centerforward who just happens to be tall. At least that's how he played in Wolfsburg and I doubt Mancini bought him as targetman like some seem to assume.

What do I personally think about us not having enough crosses? 4-3-3 wouldn't be my preferred system and like everyone here knows "attacking fullbacks" aren't exactly my favourite breed. I also happen to love good classic winger as a football fan. But that's not how Mancini rolls and I have to live with that.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Speculation:
Skysports.com understands Leicester are closing in on a deal for Manchester City's forgotten midfielder Michael Johnson.

I hope there's some truth in this. Loan deal or permanent, would be a good deal and if anyone can get his career back on track I reckon it's Sven. He showed faith in him at an early stage so I'm sure he'd do it again

Daily Mail is reporting that Everton may want AJ on loan with a possibly buy after (highly unlikely, they're so broke). But Sunderland might also be interested in a transfer apparently,

If City either a) loan AJ to Everton, b) sell him to Sunderland, or c) sell him to Chelsea, then my arse is a fire engine.

After all that crap with Everton 2 years ago, I wouldnt sell them any shit off our shoes.
