The Mutu case implied players have a responsibility to maintain their commercial value while under contract to a club, to me that means training and availability to play. It would have to be something drastic for a club to take a player to court though.

I'd expect if it went that far, they'd suspend his wages then take him to court and try to get him to pay up the rest of his contract fee or the current market value.

They'd want to be pretty clear if they wanted to suspend and sue for breach of contract.

They'd have a case for looking for remaining value of contract and amortisation (or even a tribunal decided transfer fee) but it would be a long hard road. Chelsea probably won't see that Mutu money because he's dragged it out to the point where he won't care if his registration gets revoked for non payment.
