When we scored at Wembley, the rush of emotion not only in myself but those around me was something I've never experienced.

When the final whistle went, to see grown men around me cry (myself included) was something I will never forget.

Are we hated? I don't give a fuck either way. Judgement of the media doesn't pay the emotion bills. Them wanking over us wouldn't have made me celebrate any more or any less. Them hating us wouldn't either. Their opinion of us is totally incidental in my life and the last 3 years have been a wake up call for me not to believe anything I read in the papers until it's actually been confirmed by an official source. This doesn't just go for City related news, I'm the same now with pretty much all gossipy type news.

Get a grip - It's irrelevant whether we're hated or not.

Yes the thread title is just a piss take ;-).......Since the takeover it was obvious the hatred would eventually kick in against us, but now were winning things we are the fuckin devil club big time..I just wasnt expecting to fallout with friends over it. Guess iv just been used to the " Man City is everyones fav 2nd team" for so long....Im embracing the change now, but lets stay grounded and not end up like those arrogant pricks from Salford..Man City is not a glory hunting club and never will be...We have soul and hardcore roots unlike the rags.

Not wrong there tiger.

It's common fucking marketing sense. The biggest market is rag fans. Unless you are targetting a niche market you follow the common themes. The papers audience are either rag or scouse fans so they write good stuff about them. These same people will hate City and Everton so they write bad stuff about them. Unless there's a sacking afoot. Then it's blood at all costs.

hyper wrote:This is brilliant - my understanding is that it was sent to nearly every national paper. Very well written and good to know that our Press Office don't just lie back and take it:

Gents (and lady) Please be under no illusion as to how bitterly disappointed we were with today's reporting of our homecoming parade and stadium event. We are staggered that the overriding story of the day - headline, intro and in most cases 90% of copy - was that Mario's absence overshadowed the event. In whose eyes, may we ask? Seemingly in the eyes of the NW National newspaper (and one off region) correspondents only.

The same NW Correspondents who, with the exception of three people, didn't even make it to the Town Hall press conference. Not one of you, including the three press conference attendees, came to the stadium event, so please can those of you who stated or inferred that the event was marred/soured/overshadowed, explain how you are qualified to make that judgement? Can those of you who made no reference to the events other than to describe the "snub" , please tell us why you chose to do so? Had you been there perhaps you would have been able to ask the countless guys of a certain age who had tears streaming down their faces, or an emotional daughter of Malcolm Allison, or the widow of Neil Young - both special guests, or maybe the tens of thousands of 0 to 41 year olds who have never seen City achieve anything and were pinching themselves at what they were witnessing.

The common theme was one of joy and disbelief, not "fury", "rage" or "embarrassment". Turn on any of the broadcasts on BBC, ITV, Sky News and Sky Sports News and there was nothing but positive commentary. Ditto national and local radio. Mario's absence was barely noticed and received the most cursory mention. When the reporting across all media channels is looked at in its entirety, we think you'll find that the national print media's take on the event stands sadly alone. We absolutely understand that the absence of a key player is newsworthy. We absolutely understand that when that player is someone as "colourful" shall we say, as Mario, that it becomes even more newsworthy. We wouldn't for one moment consider that you would avoid significant reference to it. What we don't understand is why you should choose to do so at the expense of all other aspects of an incredible day for our football club.

More than 100,000 people filled the streets of Manchester. 40,000 people packed into the stadium for a two hour celebration ( there were more outside to whom we couldn't grant access for safety reasons). I'm afraid that anyone reading any of your articles this morning would still be unaware of either fact. It strikes us that perhaps your stories were already written, although with a different player's name inserted. How fortunate that Mario did the honours instead. One of you phoned the comms team 17 times in the couple of hours leading up to event, excitedly exclaiming that there were " no players AT ALL on the bus" and what were the club going to do about it? The fact that the players weren't due on it for another hour clearly hadn't been considered. One of you, at 4pm, giddily texted predicting that the event would be "shambolic" if neither Mario nor Carlos were appearing. Another texted to say how "fantastic it looked", but failed to make mention of this in his copy.

We could go on. Our comms team have, I believe, been nothing but positive in our dealings with you this season. We believe we have been accessible to enquiries, given great access to players and coaching staff, guided honestly and, I hope, acted as you would want a comms team to act. We don't for a moment think that that that means we qualify for some kind of special treatment but naively, probably, we thought there might be a shared sense of celebration for a club that you many of you have covered for more than a decade. Many of you talk to us of how protected many of the London clubs are by your London based peers. I can't see the same accusation being made by them of you. In fact, you have handed on a plate to them another nicely packaged story with which some of them will give us a good bashing and in doing so have ensured that they too will overlook all of the dignified, touching and thoughtful moments of the day that make Manchester City, despite the headlines, still a very special football club.

Great stuff. Although Vicky Kloss has always been ace with these.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Some newspapers should be banned in my opinion if they keep this up. They write almost all negative stories about us now after we give them press conferences, interviews, access etc. so it's not going to really get any worse if we banned them from the ground and the training centre.

Maybe then they'll realise then that they have to earn the access and extra privileges they want, by writing fair and balanced articles.

I suggest that there have been many of these types of letters written to various media outlets and they have taken notice, but until the club start taking a harder line then things won't change too much. The media, as most companies, are driven by sales and the way they've got those sales has been to support the old Sky 4 because that's where their sales lie. If they can write a story about the other teams in a negative way, those same people will buy it just the same as it still gives them a sense of empowerment.

Then you take the writers allegiances into account, who themselves want to be empowered, then you get a media that just cannot bring themselves to report anything without giving it a negative slant. An event like ours was a milestone that should have been reported just as it was, especially in the North West, allowing those to read about it and enjoy the event again in words and pictures, bringing back the emotions of the day and allowing those who could not attend a fully inclusive look and feel into what the day was all about - Us.

The biggest shame was the inane diatribe that was spouted from our nearest and dearest media outlets, who should have been promoting the positive imagine of a NW club who had turned the corner and put their fans (local people) at the heart of all things that had been achieved.

Shame on you all, you don't deserve a penny off me, or any sort of remuneration for what can only be considered an attack on the people you try to serve.

The written media have always been a big problem for City. I have read comments from a book published in 1969 which alludes to press coverage even before that time complaining of the different coverage between city and the rags. Certainly the 1900's City payments scandal saw the City reportage in poor light and there was the famous incident onthe plane back from Schalke in the early 1970s whern Mick Doyle had to be dragged off one sports editor.
City have never dealt with this adequately nor do they seem to have ever found an answer. Peter Swales did much to alleviate the problem by allowing cameras free access and pandering to the edia but little changed.

Banning them is useless, they would simply attend matches in the public areas and their vitriol would continue. I do think that the way forward now is to start legal action against the written media, as often as is necessary and at least take a few million from their coffers.
The good news is that clubs now have the internet and access to the public without the need for the press. This means that those responnsible for getting the City news out there will have to be very efficient and vigilant.

We all were mediocre sides that bought our way to the top. Especially ManU. I don't really understand the whole point of this thread. Are they happy the Glazers are pocketing their money? They will all give a kidney away to have your owners or even their old ones.

Paul (Nosferatu) Smith (Mirror) Rob Beasley (Sun) Neil Aston (NOTW) 50% of the most bitter, City hating sqaud of wankers, all on the same show.

Slaughtered every aspect of our club all season. Any 'I was wrong' admissions ? Barely even fucking referred to us when discussing spending for next season, because getting into details would mean mentioning players who they've fucking slaughtered & they would have to admit they're wrong, so they do 20 mins each on Chelsea & Arsenal, then about 3 on City. Skip past us & change the subject.

Utter fucking wankers.
