Like it a lot - has a dark edginess to it. A bit like a forewarning to the rest that an ominous presence is about to take control

Like has already been mentioned but doesn't seem to have got through..our first ever kit was black so to say we have no history of having black in our kits is quite simply laughable

For fuck's sake... no what hasn't got through is that GORTON ST. MARKS wore black - sure our origins are traced back to them but also to ARDWICK who wore navy blue and white stripes!
as MANCHESTER CITY we have only ONCE had black on our shirts - the awful Reebok effort from 2006-2007. And we wore black shorts and socks for one season in the 1890s... just because we can trace our earliest incarnation to Gorton doesn't mean we traditionally have to use that colour... clearly we never have apart from TWO away strips! Not that hard to get your head around is it?We ARE NOT GORTON we ARE MANCHESTER CITY and traditionally we have no black in our strip.

I have no problem commemorating our origins in an away strip but really, really don't like changing our home shirt into a Coventry strip!

I know everyone's entitled to their own opinions, but mine is that we play in sky blue and white. A lot of people seem to like the idea of the black because of the Gorton connection, however this is pretty much just the lazy bullshit that Umbro will release in a video to convince us of the reasoning behind it - probably because they can't think of anything clever to do with sky blue and white. What next - the season after we resort to royal blue and white stripes because Ardwick wore them?

Each to their own but I believe that there is an integrity to keeping our colours faithful. Look at all the top teams around the world - their colours are instantly recognisable and have remained unchanged in the games modern era. For example can you imagine the rags having yellow and green trim on their shirts? Or Liverpool blue trim on theirs?
They realised a long time ago that a successful team needs to be an instantly identifiable 'brand' almost. Yes occasionally somebody like Barca may change their shorts but it's their shirts that matter - but can you imagine Real Madrid having purple shorts next season, or the rags wearing red socks, Liverpool wearing white shorts?
I feel we should have that and historically always have... I want to be able to look at a shirt and say "That's City" not "hmmm is it Coventry?"

I like the idea of black trim on the sleeves (like the Arsenal one in that moody pic). We should of had that on the 'old third divsion' kit to show we were permanently in mourning

Yep which is why I said in my post that there was a point when they realised their identities and stuck to them - the 1950s or 60s in most English teams history! Do you think the dipper's fans would accept white shorts now? No as their kit is iconic.

As for that picture - i've read on a couple of forums that the kits are fake - but if not I guarantee first off that Rags will not be happy about the socks. But they have worn them and it's not exactly adding a colour they have no link to!
As for the Arsenal kit - if indeed it is genuine - are you sure that;s black? More than likely Navy Blue, a colour they are historically linked with and have wore navy socks on numerous occasions... but again most importantly will their fans like the kit if it is black? I doubt that too.
And on a final note about their authenticity - if they are real then thank fuck we're with Umbro because they are all shite!

The simple answer should City choose black trim is to get your Mummy to cut it off with the sharp scissors.
