Det Const Dave Doherty, investigating officer, now on witness stand.

FA provided statements they had gathered to police. They were from Ashley Cole, Chris Foy (ref), Luke Young, Tommie Smith, Fitz Hall, John Obi Mikel, Ivanovic.

George Carter-Stephenson, for Terry, suggesting now that Anton Ferdinand was initially reluctant to get involved with the police. Detective Constable Dave Doherty says 'other officers' may have noted Ferdinand's reluctance.

First and only complaint around the incident was made by an off duty police officer.

Det Const Dave Doherty describes Ferdinand's life outside football as 'unstructured'. 'Very difficult to get hold of.' Ferdinand's 'PR agent' or 'facilitator' Mr Rigby was dealing with the police.

Mr Rigby seems of particular interest to Terry's QC.

Terry QC suggests Ferdinand publicist, Justin Rigby, has 'played rather an active part in this'.

Terry lawyer to investigating officer: 'Did you get the impression he (Mr Rigby) was pushing you to charge in respect of this matter.'

Det Const Dave Doherty: 'He (Mr Rigby) was not pushing me towards a charging decision cos it's not my decision.'

Police met Ferdinand on street in Soho to sign his statement.

The Prosecution case against John Terry is now complete.

George Carter-Stephenson on his feet now saying that prosecution has not made a 'proper prima facie' case against John Terry.

Terry QC: 'assistance from footage is minimal' and adds on lip-reading that it is 'capable of misinterpretation'.

I am now hoping that they will call a [strike]beer[/strike]lunchbreak.

Bollox, after a brief break they are carrying on ....

so back in Courtroom 1

Terry QC: 'absence of ... answer as to how the words were being spoken ... what basis would the Crown be able to put this case forward?'

Terry QC: On Ferdinand, 'clearly not a reliable witness.'

Terry QC on Ferdinand: 'quite clearly prepared to put in a wit statement something which casts his position in the best possible way ....'

Terry QC saying Ferdinand's 'missus' references 'significantly altered' the case.

Terry QC argues Ferd's statement, apart from the gesture, says 'he is doing nothing else that may have prompted a response from Mr Terry.'

Terry QC: 'His (Ferdinand's) reliability is clearly not good.'

Defence say the evidence is 'so weak and tenuous that it doesn't warrant this case going any further.'

and on that note the Magistrate has obviously heard my rumbling stomach and dry throat so has adjourned. Prosecution will reply to defence submission after hour-long lunch at 2pm BST after which the Magistrate will decide if the case is to continue!!!.

Cheers Chinners, just popped out for my daily fix.

One question that keeps springing to mind, unless I've missed something, is why Terry felt the need to question Ferdinand regarding the racial statement whilst still on the pitch? Ferdinand clearly stated that he was unaware of any racial abuse until around 1900 hrs when his girlfriend brought the incident up. If that was the case then he couldn't have questioned Terry and therefore Terry wouldn't/couldn't have responded how he did.

Something doesn't add up here as the prosecution haven't really answered this point, instead they've skirted around it, but why?

Have I missed something?

Ah, thats better ...

DAY 2 PM

ALL RISE - COURT IN SESSION
Prosecution, Duncan Penny, back on his feet at start of afternoon session. Clearly, he argues that there is a case to answer.

Penny says 'there is a body of evidence' and replays on video the moment when Terry is alleged to have said 'f****** black c***'.

Prosecution: you can make a common sense conclusion on whether the incident demonstrates 'hostility or surprise or incredulity'.

Prosecution: You can draw inference from evidence that Terry used language abusively at Anton Ferdinand.

Magistrate says he does find there is a case to answer, so on we go ...

John Terry called to the witness stand and is now being sworn in under oath.

Terry begins confirming details, talking quietly.

Terry: Insulted very frequently on a football pitch. 'It's part and parcel of the game.'

Terry: Adressing Howard Riddle, the chief magistrate, quietly, respectfully. Asked now to 'keep your voice up' by his lawyer.

Terry: taunted 'more or less every game' about well-documented affair.

The video's on again......

Terry: I brush past Anton. He gives me a barge. Happens 'very frequently'. 'It happens in a game literally hundreds of times.'

Terry: 'Anton said I should have given them the ball back and called me 'a f****** prick.' 'I told him to f*** off'.

Terry ran back to regain his central defensive position. 'I'm okay, I'm relaxed.'

Terry: I hear him shouting abuse. He was doing a pumping action and said 'sh****** Bridge's missus'.

Terry is prompted to speak by Ferd gesture. I said: 'F*** off, f*** off.' in response to gesture and Bridge words. 'Heard it all before.'

Terry: Say 'yeah, yeah' cos I've heard it all before.

Terry: he said to me 'calling me a black c***'. I thought he was accusing me if calling him 'a black c***'. I was very angry and upset.

Terry repeated phrase 'out of shock'.

Terry: I was accusing him of being 'a kn**head' for thinking I would say that.

Terry: Was 'quite angry and upset' just after incident.

Terry is asked why he's laughing in the footage: just laughed at the stuff about Bridge's missus, he tells the court.

What a load of fucking shit i couldn't give a fuck if a nutter ran in court and killed both of them.
I guarantee you black players say something like this towards white players?
Why is that never a crime yet it is when a black person has thing racially said to him by whites?
Talk about double standards, and to think of the cost of this court case and the result of this will be?
A slap on the hand for the 'white man' whilst the 'Blackman' laughs.

Actually Paul, IF either Terry gets found guilty or Ferdinand gets found lying then the FA can then step in with big fines and bans .... but I get you're point, something Evra is rather good at ironically but thats another matter

anyway, back in Courtroom 1 ....

Terry: 'F*** off was in response to 'sh****** Bridge's missus' and 'calling me a black c***.'

Terry: I was angry and upset and said something to Ashley Cole minutes after. 'That Anton's just accused me of being a racist.'

Terry on the tunnel incident afterwards: "both teams come together . . . someone said something about my mum."

Terry: I made my way to showers and asked steward to get Anton so I could speak to him.

Terry: "We've a little bit of superstition at Chelsea. Me, Ash, Frank Lampard and Daniel Sturridge all change close to each other....

"Until we lose and then we change it around again."

Terry meeting after game with Ferdinand. Terry: 'Were you accusing me of calling you a black c***?' Ferdinand: 'No. Not at all.'

Terry claims he asked Ferdinand twice after the game. Ferdinand ended saying: 'We all said things we should not have said. That's the end .'

Terry first knew that suggestions he was a racist (you tube clips etc) were out there when he was arriving by coach back at Stamford Bridge.

After longer delay than expected Terry's cross examination begins ...

Prosecutor: "Mr Terry, you are one of the game's superstars." Terry: "I wouldn't say superstar"

Terry being asked the meaning of "handbags" by prosecutor

Prosecutor going through `common or garden' swearing with Terry

Prosecutor says the phrase 'your mum's a slag' is common on the pitch. Terry says he's only heard that directed towards him

Prosecutor is now throwing "ugly" "cunt", "prick"at Terry and asking if it is all acceptable on a pitch.

Prosecutor: You are respected in the football community? Terry: I'd like to think so

Prosecutor: You're the victim here aren't? You've been stitched up right and proper haven't you? Terry: yeah

Prosecutor: Has anyone ever said to you "you English c*nt?" Terry: "yes, I just laugh it off".

Terry: "It's different, your girlfriend or ugly to what he accused me of."

Prosecutor: You've had an awful lot of stick over this whole thing (Bridge affair)You’d applied for an injunction. You had an injunction... it was lifted. It was all reported. The handshake and you had to put up with it.

Prosecutor: "What about the 'n' word?" Terry: "I would probably have repeated that word". Prosecutor; "Really?"

Pros to #Terry. "you're not a racist. But you used racist language that day because you snapped"

Terry: "If I was going to snap, I would have snapped a long time before that."

Pros to #Terry: Why did you do the "old bad breath thing"? Terry: "it's just something I done"

JT: when he's accused me of that i couldn't control my emotions DP: you couldn't could you. you're not a racist but you used racist language

DP: re terry gesturing ferdinand had bad breath: were you trying to humiliate him?

JT: wasn't going through my mind, no DP: designed to give impresssion to the other players `anton's got stinky breath', right?

DP: a childish insult right? JT: without saying it, yes. handbags.

Terry: I really wouldn't try and humiliate him (Anton)

Pros to Terry, "Why not say Anton calm down". Terry: "You wouldn't see many footballers squaring up saying 'calm down'"

Lawyer: Your blood was up wasn’t it? Terry: No it wasn't? Lawyer Yes it was. We'll look at it in a bit

Watching tape now after lawyer suggested Terry's 'blood was up' and he tried to 'humiliate' Ferdinand with bad breath gesture

DP: you were annoyed? JT: I was annoyed we didn;t get a penalty. I really wasnt trying to humiliate him.

Terry now shown footage of end of game, including another bout of 'handbags' with QPR keeper Paddy Kenny

Lawyer: what did you say to him? Terry: Can't remember Lawyer: It must be abuse because you did that fat thing (pushes arms out)

Terry grilled about why he insulted Paddy Kenny for being `fat'. DP: you're not fat are you. you are a `supreme athlete' JT: i used to be

Prosecutor: "you do the old 'fat' gesture" to Kenny. Terry: "that's every day, every game"

Law: He (Kenny) looks a bit big doesn't he? Terry:Camera puts on a few pounds

DP: have you thought about apologising to Anton for what you said? JT: why would i apologise when he accused me?

Last question to Terry: You regretted it almost immeditaly didn't you? Terry: No I didn't

Chinners mate, did you see the footage from the other angles in regard to what Terry actually said? If so, what was your take on things, in your view of course?

That is, of course, if you are able to give your personal view.

The other angles courtesey of Chelsea have not been shown as yet, only referred to. Fingers crossed they will get an airing today or better still tomorrow when I've bagsied my place in the public gallery ... I'm thinking of wearing my MCF.NET T-shirt along with a 'Press Bollox' badge on my top hat!

At this stage in the trial (and things can do a complete u-turn on any given day) I'd say this is no more that a typical spat that occurs dozens of times in any game of football. At the moment and based on the stuff I've heard so far, imo, whilst crass, Terry seems to be guilty of no more than repeating something said to him on a football pitch that was an attempt to wind him up (he's had 78,000 people chanting the Bridge stuff at him so 1 comment from a footballer ain't going to work) ... that view may change today mind
