Sparticus - you said my posts were ill informed so using that logic it would seem to indicate others posts not in this thread. So how am I ill informed about jack? Well known for injuries and gets himself injured not long after joining city... He cost us the dort game and probably qualifying the group now. He gave away another goal earlier on, thankfully city managed to pull it back and win 3-2.

In the short space of time he's been at city he's been useless, as much as I dislike Barry he is no replacement or even good enough to cover.

No point going on about the formation in this thread tbh I only mention it because your post would have not made sense about other posts otherwise.

Lol why the phil jones comparison? Not only is he a defender I'm not a rag fan either.

Who cares if they bought jack as a hot prospect, maybe the hype machine got the best of it but everton were clearly laughing to the bank when we bought him. Hazard same age as him but had proven he was decent before hand. If city want youngsters they should develop their own, thy got the facilities now, rather than buy players like jack cos he's young and someone claims he's a hot prospect. There are many younger players out there who are hot prospects but also perform each week too.

He was signed for a massive fee (at that time) at the advanced age of 28 and, in spite of his individual brilliance, he was never a team player, he didn't inspire us to further glories and then jumped ship to scuttle off to the USA.

I can't actually believe I'm typing these comments as I hero-worshipped him for the flamboyant skill he possessed.......

no way ! marsh's signing did not lose us the title that year . Allison did . Insisting on playing an overweight and unfit Marsh...

Marsh came good for City on many occasions.

You're quite right, it was an absurd post altogether.

Perhaps it's just that, even after all these years, the way that City threw away the League title still irks, frustrates and saddens me.

In hindsight, our history might have been entirely different if we had won it then; for one, we wouldn't have had to suffer the Ron Saunders' episode and the Mercer-Allison partnership might just have continued for a little longer. If that had happened, who knows what could have followed.

I loved Rodney Marsh, but it was frustrating that so much promise for the team that seemed about to be realised with him, remained unfulfilled, especially after seeing the last game of that season, at Maine Road, when he demolished a fine Derby side almost single handedly.

After that display, I couldn't wait for the 1972/73 season to start but, as it turned out, it just seemed to be an anti-climax.

Once again, upon reflection, it was a daft post.......just don't get me talking about a player, from a later City era, that I hated and despised - namely one Niall Quinn.......
