How about this for the cringiest rag status tonight.... 'Champions! Really enjoyed watching the game tonight not often I get to watch a game, on tele, haven't been to old Trafford this year hope to go next year, unlucky to the other teams especially man city who put up a good fight!' This guys lives just outside London and I know for a fact he's never been to old Trafford let alone just this season!!! Bless their hearts.

They all have their own teams the 'support' I'm the first to respond to people when they slag off our season,.... Me as a city fan need to keep pinching myself the last few seasons! Potential of 3 major trophies!! Wow only 6-7 yrs ago we were happy with mid table!! I was just pointing out that these players are all mates at the end of the day and live in a different world they will be drinking together tonight. It's horrible but it's true. Anyway I am very happy with this season.. Truly believe next season the champions league journey will be better and we will win the league again! Get young blood coming through and make zabs teach some of the lads how to play with heart! And show some bloody guts!

They've won the league with 4 games spare. That really is an embarrasment.

For some mate, for some. It'd be nice for you to explain why, from where you stand.

Even more, why the fuck are you embarrassed? Anybody else for that reason, are you embarrassed?

I'll wait mate, this better be good.

Beefy I fully understand we were once a shit club. I know only 7 years ago or so we went ten games at home without scoring. I know we've had some real shite and I know we were in the 3rd division about 15 years ago. Never did I think we'd be in the position we are now, with a good chance to win our 3rd trophy in 3 years.

I get it.
But you have to accept we won the lottery, twice. We really did. Without so, we probably would be in the position of someone like Sunderland or Aston Villa now.
Things have changed and now we have had hundreds of millions, perhaps billions in investment. We're no longer a small club who's only target is to win a derby game a year and stay up. As I've said numerous times, we are full of world class players and we can expect far more of what they have delivered this year. I look at the Rags side and other than RVP and Rooney and De gea on a good day I really don't see any standout world class players. They have won the league with players such as Phil Jones, Smalling, Cleverly, Welbeck, Giggs, Scholes and others. Which of those would you have in your side? That's the infuriating bit. We have a better team and have lost. But not only did we lose the title- we didn't even put up a fight and that's the worst bit.

Yes we lost the title last night but realistically when we lost the derby we never for a second looked like hauling them back. Since then the gap has only widended, apart from a couple of times. I said February but we have barely challenged them since early December. And that is the embarrassment. I don't mind going down fighting, but we went down with a whimper.

We can't just take the approach 'we're lucky to be here and anything we win is a bonus' because that's loser talk. Top sides, real champions expect to win and don't settle for anything less. We shouldn't be happy with 2nd because 2nd is a comfort zone.
Yes I'll be delighted with the FA Cup but that doesn't hide our poor showing in the league.

This is not a great rag side and they've walked the league.

This is something you often repeat. I'm a bit curious which teams you consider are filled with top class players if United isn't. Now, I'm not saying that their team is filled with world class players but this constant dissing of every other premier league team - including the rags - is a bit over the top in my opinion. But before we get into that, I would like you to name the teams that are better than United, including us if that's the case. Globally speaking of course.

Better than United? We should be, Madrid, Barcelona, Munich, Dortmund to name a few.

I sound like a broken record but it's not the losing, it's the manner in which we lost.

I'm not going to go too deep into as I think I've shared enough views for all to see. What I will say is that it's not the end of the world that we lost the league. We may have some great players but when you lose them great players for large proportions of the season then things change, the team changes and the outlook has to change. Losing Sergio, Vince and Dave is a serious loss to any side and then when you lose Yaya for a fifth of the season then you have to take it into perspective.

And United, you keep banging on that we have a better squad. I just don't buy it. What they have is the players to change their tactics, something that we severely lack. They've got 2 very decent players for each of the wings, they have plenty of decent players in the middle who can be inter-changed when they need a rest or need to change it up. They've got arguably one of the best strike forces in the country and their experience and fallbacks in the back 4 are far from shabby. That doesn't mean to say they're a great team as some of their games have shown but they have got options and when you combine that with a little bit of luck and a few nice decisions from the ref, then that's where it gets you.

I get it, you are pissed off but so might the rest of us be. The difference being that all those years of being a City fan sort of gives you the perspecive that we've seen it all before although this time, we're not fighting relegation, we're not looking for a goal here and there and we're certainly not worried about the future of the club. We're 2nd in the league, in a wonderful position to crack on next season and most probably strengthen the squad with some real quality players.

The Rags have a hollow victory this season, nobody cares. Even the Rags I've met today don't really give a fuck, it's just another year. One even said that they've been very lucky with quite a few decisions; there's a first.

But to be embarrassed mate, never, and if you are embarrassed for not running the Rags to the end then I'd hate to see what you were like back then. You see, the past shapes us and gives us a perspective of what is yet to be. This season is a learning curve and one that will be used to shape our future, one which, I'm certain, will be very bright.

Fair enough Beefy. I respect your opinion even if I don't fully agree. Perhaps embarassed is too strong a word but I still remain deeply disappointed that we did not challenge past December 9th.
But we could debate forever about this.
There's no such thing as a hollow title though and that does sound a little bitter. They won the title. They won it back from us.
Say what we want about Taggart but every time his side loses the title they come back stronger and more determined, let's hope we can do the same.
I still am interested in which Rags you think would get in our team.
I don't think they're a great side. They just have a great manager who manages to get his players to overperform and be incredibly well drilled. Taggart would have walked the title with our team.
Win the Fa Cup and it'll make me feel better but we seriously need to do better next season and that means a sustained title challenge and a stronger showing in CL (would be hard to do worse).
That's all I ask. Not that we win everything but that we challenge.

Anyway respect your optimism even if I am an eternal pessimist.
Cheers.

I'll answer mate, quite a few. Without using my Rag-Hate head, I think most on here would look at players like:

RVP
Rooney
Valencia
Nani
Kagawa et al

in the first team and:

Carrick
Hernandez
Young
Smalling et al

as decent back-up.

(spits, gargles with shot of brandy)

Consider this season, we lose Aguero within 7 minutes and don't really get to see the best of him all season. We lose Micah for near enough forcing Zab's (hero) to play near enough every single game. We lost Vince for a considerable period and Dave looked very tired on his return from the European cup with various niggles to follow. Now, these in isolation are not the end of the world but when you lose them along with other considerations then things can soon go wrong.

A couple of games though, we were pathetic. The Southampton game being the worst for me where we couldn't even string a couple of passes together. Those games I put down to a collective failure from the manager to the players and when individuals make mistakes like Barry in that game or Vince in the Spurs game then it just compounds the problem.

On that note, I do wonder if Vince has still got problems as he still doesn't look comfortable. You never know, he could be hiding the problem. After playing for Belgium he cannot complain as he will look a little foolish going against the clubs directive. Maybe he's going to play-through for the end of the season to come and he can give the injury a rest.

Valencia has been really poor this season by his standards so has Nani.
I would have liked to have seen more of Sinclair. Yes he's no Messi but at least give him a chance as he has genuine pace. We kept giving him 5 minutes every 5 games or so and expecting him to deliver.

A few may have had a bad season, so have a few of ours but it doesn't mean that I don't want them in our squad. Valencia and Nani have been excellent for the majority of their time at United and without the Blue Tints, I'm sure that many Blues would have them at ours.

I notice you don't have any objections with the rest so to be fair, nearly half of their outfield players would get in our squad. Similarly, I'd suggest half of ours would get in theirs, but it's all hypothetical.

Valencia is one of my favorite players. Rag or not. Fantastic winger at his best, direct, pacey and a great crosser. Would love him in our squad.
Nani blows too hot and cold. Not consistent enough.
RVP and Rooney would get in our team. Maybe even De Gea this season would. Wouldn't have Carrick nor Young nor Smalling.
