So are you saying Dzeko is a spastic & therefore is being subject to hate crime ?

Seeing as my new friend has quoted 'hostility based on personal characteristics', let's just have a quick look at the offence.

As Dzeko is neither physically nor mentally disabled, he therefore has no personal characteristics which are related to spasticity. Therefore even if this chap could argue it was motivated by hostility, which the original Bosnian spastic thread was, and this one clearly isn't given the lavish praise, that perceived hostility clearly isn't based on a personal characteristic and thus isn't a hate crime if the above definition is correct.

Plus, according to that definition a crime would need to be a crime before it could be recorded as a hate crime. In the words of our manic depressive national treasure

Now I have to say, any time someone quotes Stephen Fry I am seriously offended.

I won't be changing the thread title for a few reasons.

Firstly, calling someone who clearly isn't disabled, a spastic, is highly unlikely to be particularly offensive to him, (rather important given he is the one being called a spastic wouldn't you say?).

Secondly, I have a serious physical disability - I don't find the term
Spastic, spaz, spacker, cripple etc offensive, and friends frequently (and often inappropriately) call it me when they see me walking with crutches or walking with difficulty without them, so please don't pretend to speak for people 'with disability' - you don't. As a person 'with disability' I actually find your patronising and labelling rather offensive in itself.

Finally, the term is not me randomly calling him a spastic, it is an ironic reference to a comment another poster made about Dzeko some time ago (As explained in my 2nd post on this thread) I appreciate if you didn't see the original thread this refers to, you don't get that context.

However, if you're so easily offended that you feel the strong need to post for the first time since November 2012 to complain about another post, despite all the wonderful things at city you could have commented on in the 2 years since your last post, perhaps you have your priorities somewhat wrong for being a member of a manchester city forum.

Of course if the lads feel I've overstepped the mark, they are more than welcome to change the thread title

Quite frankly I find your remarks personally offensive.

It is totally irrelevant whether or not you have a disability or whether or not you think the remarks are offensive.

You are a coward making them hidden behind a keyboard. If not removed within 24 hours I will report the thread to the police, you were asked nicely.

It is because of the offensive nature of the thread title thatI posted.

Call my bluff and you will regret it, that is my promise to you - you will get a knock on you door from the police.

Do the decent thing and remove hate is hate even if you are just repeating what others said, same for racism you repeat it YOU offend.

Look, I'm sure your heart is in the right place, but a couple of points before you spontaneously combust with outrage:

#1 - You began all this claiming to uphold the honour of disabled people, all of them apparently, yet when I pointed out I'm disabled and that you don't speak for me, you then claim my opinion as a disabled person doesn't count. At least be consistent and get your story straight.

#2 - You'd have a hard enough job finding a copper in a British nick these days, but assuming you do, when he (or she, of course, I don't want sexism added to my rap sheet) finally stops laughing at you, my address is Villa 43, Al Rayyan Road, Doha, Qatar.

I'll be home all day. If I'm not in the house, tell them to pop round to the pool.

Ok I will engage with you as this post is at least mannerly unlike your original response to me.

I am offended, not outraged or in meltdown as some seem to have posted. I am offended that such language can be used on a forum and allowed to stay up by administrators and moderators. I am also shocked at the language your friends use to address you, as you report on here. I would not accept abuse like that from anyone, let alone friends.

The point I am making is this is an abusive and derogatory term and should not be tolerated. You may not feel it is abusive I do. It may address Dzeko but it is on an open forum and it is not an acceptable way to address anyone. I view it and I find it offensive. Society needs to stamp this out as much as racist and other abuse.

For you as a disabled person to accept such terms as you mentioned earlier and then use one of them, well in my opinion you need to have a serious rethink and you should have more pride in yourself and self esteem.

In private with your friends it is your choice but this is an open forum and such hate language should not be tolerated anymore than racist chants or language.

In my opinion ,Its people like you that has taken the Great out of Britain , the reason why we are where we are as a country. You are a PC clappy, health and safety(Ill wager) nut...one of those uni snot fuck ups that manage to get into government and fuck up our country with your policies. People like you need to be put in a box and only let out on special days.

FYI This forum is for City fans who share common bonds , banter is a huge part of what this forum is about , sure, its near the knuckle at times but we are far from racist (They get banned in an instant), we do all sorts to help out our fellow fans, no matter what colour or religion they may be.

You have come on here and made yourself look a TiT,,,,,,,now , I do not care a jot if you like my colourful language , (I blame the army for that) but I cannot and will not allow someone like you to spout your drivel on this site without my pennies worth.

Have a shit life.

Out of honest curiosity Cit, what do you personally think about the title of the thread?

I agree with Carl and Nigel by the way, the forum does a fair bit of self policing with regards to racism and homophobia. It's not like this forum is a gutterhole where people get away with everything and I'm fairly sure there is a big portion of people who hold back on racist and homophobic opinions because they know these aren't kosher here. I appreciate your concern Citoeast and as Sparty says, I'm sure you're heart is in the right place, but I think a discussion about this issue would require a lot more nuance than you've provided so far.

I'm not saying it's a bad discussion to have, not at all, and if I remember correctly those who coined the bosnian spastic phrase did a bit of back tracking after a while because of their insensitivity to the entire yugoslavian thing. The phrase remains though and it remains with a lot of tongue in cheeck and affection (even if that may sound weird) for Dzeko and his lumbering playing style. At face value, I'm pretty sure these qualities aren't visible for someone not so frequent in his or her visits to this forum which is a real problem (as I'm sure everyone on here wants it to be a welcoming and inclusive forum) but at the same time, this forum is, as twosips recently wrote, basically an internet equivalent of a living room. It may be public but not many treat it that way. And consequentially, it's a bloody great forum.

Eggsackly.

This is a Chelsea fan on a wind up maybe? Makes zero sense you could be this much of an absolute fuckhole and take yourself this seriously.

And Herb should fuck off entirely. He's always been a ridiculous clown character but his post in this thread really takes the cake. Yaya won't be pleased.

To be honest if i m not here for few years almost every game and reguraly reading post of members i would be insulted, but what that guy don't get is that Bosnian spastic is more Inside joke rather than an insult. If u know enough people here then that is almost an ironic version of praise to Dzeko. But I still think that should not be the title of topic although I know that is not set as an insult, racism or anything like that.
You can't be a real country unless you have a beer and an airline. It helps if you have some kind of a football team, or some nuclear weapons, but at the very least you need a beer.

I don't really like the term either. It's name calling that we used when I was a kid growing up, but were quickly chastised by our parents and told not to call anybody that. So, I suppose it's part of my upbringing. I don't know the back story of the original poster that coined the phrase, but I'm pretty sure it's not a term of endearment. That started before I joined here. But to take issue with the poster, who started this thread, is totally missing the point he is trying to make, in my opinion.
What I take from it, is him exposing the stupidity of the phrase in the first place, or maybe I'm the one missing the point.
I agree it's an open forum and there probably should be limits to what you can post, but it isn't compulsory that you come on here either. We all have the option to opt out of the forum altogether or out of a thread or not to engage with individuals if you so please.
If Citoeast is serious about the hate allegations, which are serious allegations to make against anyone, then he should be pretty sure about who it is that he is accusing, because I think he has the wrong man. I think choosing not to take part in a thread he doesn't like would be the wiser option.

Agree with all of that. Also agree with Cit.

"In my career so far it's the most important goal. You score the goal in the last minute to win the title. You're not sure if that's ever going to happen in your career again. I wish I could tell you how I did it but I can't. I thought for all the world that Mario was going to have a go himself but he just moved it on one more and it fell at my feet and I just thought: 'Hit the target, hit it as hard as you can and hit the target.' And it went in."
