I don't think the players, bar some, don't give a damn. I'd say it seems like they either have no clue what they are supposed to do or that there's some sort of rift behind the scenes that's disturbing everyone.
Yes you're missing something - the chance of them earning their pay cheque increases if they are emotionally invested in the club they're playing for. Which ties in with Pep's comments about how the problems are in the player's heads rather than the style of football he is asking them to play.
On a related note, it's early days but I think Nolito looks like becoming one of those 'emotionally invested' players too.
Which most of them won't be and some of them will be. Regardless if they are or not they need to do their best. And so forth.
Nolito is ace. Whether or not he succeeds he always tries.
For emotional investment, substitute 'motivated' - then look at the FA cup and it's tradition of giant killing. Teams which can perform greater as a whole than the sum of their parts might suggest. It's one thing saying players should perform at their best every time they play, it's another thing providing them with the tools to do it. And it all starts with recruiting the kind of players with the right attitude (not just a certain level of skill) - the ones who will respond to a manager's influence as he sets them up ready for a game.
