Scholes was a very good player no doubt but his England record in tournaments was shit. 2 World Cups played in 1 goal, no assists in 9 games.
Phil played the 2022 World Cup 4 games, 1 goal, 2 assists.
Scholes was played out of position for England because he wasn't as good as Gerard and Lampard in my opinion.

I’d just like to point out to everyone that I have absolutely nothing to do with this foden spat.

Please take note .

Mmm Argentina? forgotten.
Perhaps Xavi should be believed when he told a reporter to ask Scholes when he was asked whats it like being the best midfielder in the world?
I'll wait a long time for Foden to score a hattrick for England. But the question is what is wrong with Foden not how good a player Scholes was. I'd like him to pull his fucking finger out in the last few games of the season

Xavi? Pep comes out with all sorts of nonsense - one being that Nunes was one of the best in the world. Shall we believe everything he says?

Grandson duties call me away from the great Utd players of the past we try to ignore thread.
When i return i might question ' George Best, was he all that? Or just a good looking Irish bloke that could kick a ball and shag

Best was in his prime one of the all time greats. It’s just his prime was a relatively short window and his career was effectively over by 26/27 if not earlier. Was he 22 when the rags won the European Cup in 1968? And he and the rags didn’t kick on from there. That was their peak and their performances tailed dramatically off after that resulting in a relegation just 6 years later.

My post about Foden being brilliant last season and shite this season and asking the question of has he already reached his peak(?), and if so, should we cash in(?) when his stock and value is still good, was in part based on what happened with Best. Off field issues taking over from natural blessed talent.

It seems that actual football debate about opinions on players, about how good they have been, could/should be or indeed how they will progress in the future isn’t wanted.

I don’t think anyone is advocating selling Foden, I certainly haven’t read a post explicitly stating this. I myself have questioned whether the time is right given his and the clubs issues this season and argued reasons for and against. That is football debate and on a football forum is where it would be discussed. But ultimately stating he should be given another season to show this season was an aberration for whatever reason(s).

And also Foden isn’t the only player in this squad who is underperforming. Far from it. And he has more credit in the bank than 8 guys I can think of off the top of my head. But this was a thread specifically about Foden

One could very easily argue it started in 1963. When he joined the fucking rags

Met an elderley lady on a cruise a few years ago, in her prime she used to go out with utd and City players in the late 60's. She said Mike Doyle's mum complained when he first signed because they had him training in the rain! Said he was a real softy when he was young

He scored a briliant goal vs Portugal at Euro 2000. Great header.

I read today that only Haaland has performed a nywhere like this season. The team has to a man dropped in performace compared to last season. Foden is an interesting one as he was laid up at the start of the season with an illness? You never get to the bottom of what it is. Could be new kid, family issues, same with Haaland? Personally Foden is a great asset, potential still to get better. Hopefully he will, and the rest of the young players we have. Comes back to Pep finding the answer. Hopefully 115 charge might settle the squad if we are cleared
