Attacking mentality gets teams attacking, defensive mentality gets teams defending, hence when a known manager takes over a team, you almost always know what type of football it will play. The idea that these players wouldn't attack if they hadn't been concentrating on other things, is frankly beyond ridicule.

That is true, but we dont know what Mancini's style of play is do we? That is why there is so much debate.

People seem to think that we didn't attack Brum.. and in some way the mentality wasn't right and as a consequence blamed Mancini. How many runs did Yaya make against Brum?, How many shots did Milner and deJong have?

i was saying all last week that a lot of analysis was skewed out of disappointment and i am now thinking that even more.

If you read my posts, I was arguing the case that we DID attack Birmingham but were crap at it because we lacked conviction.

Ok ( i did read them) so that then mutated into a reasoning that the manager not sending them out to win.. attack.. whatever sentiment?
What im getting at is that you blamed Mancini full on, not the players.

I think he did send them out to win v Brum but he'd embued the squad with a cautious cruise control mentality where it's ok to draw if things get tough, so long as we don't lose. The 4th place mentality. I think there's absolutely no excuse for the manager of a squad like we have, struggling to produce good standard attacking football. There are plenty of excuses for not winning or for losing, shit happens & I understand that but not being able to produce a top standard of attacking football with that squad is simply not good enough. Today we surpassed that & I'm not sure people realise actually just how good we were. Today we had a 1st place mentality & very few teams could have lived with us, home or away.

ok, im going to hold you to that over the next games, especially the Home games.

my bottom line is that it is all well and good fans yapping, but we dont know and can only at best read between the lines and surmise, personally i think your idea that mancini imbued the team with a lack of mentality for publically saying we in for 4th is total and utter hogwash, but then as fans that is all we have to go off.. it doesn't mean we have to believe it or feel that it has any true value outside public realm propaganda. Fuck me he sees the player every day face to face, why would he tell them we are aiming for 4th on friggin telly. NO i dont think.

Truth is you have been shitting on Macini with some sour faced analysis for the last few weeks.. due to some crap football, and i have pointed this out to you a couple of times at least, asking you what the score was.. have you lost your patience etc. So lets just see, what the fucl happens from here on in, as you can probably tell im more than a little animated by the lack of perspective, especially by the posters who generally offer proper in depth thought out analysis.

cheers in a Doomy sort of way.

I haven't been happy with Mancini's performance on the whole for weeks & weeks. I think he's almost broke the record for the number of bizarre & stupid pointless things a manager can do. I don't doubt his ability to create a winning team though & today I think he's got it fantastically right but yeah I've been down on Mancini for a while & if Dedriyk fucking Boyata & Boateng turn up v Stoke, you can bet your fucking willy I'll be down on him again.

Bollox bollox bollox.

We were playing scared negative football and the whole footballing world could see it, as could our very own fans who voiced their opinions in their thousands last week, by booing and by walking out.

It is not and never will be good enough to play so negatively when we are aiming to be a top club. Everyone with a bit of fucking sense can see this.

Its fucking tiring having to explain this to posters that refuse to aim any criticism towards Mancini.

We're all (or most of us are) all behind him once we are willing to play football in the right manner and give it our all. He has been DIRECTLY to blame for games that should have been grabbed by the scruff of the neck but fizzled out into bore draws and it was OBVIOUS that's what the aim was - not to lose.

We lost fourth place last season because we didn't go for it at the end, against both United at home and Arsenal away. Spurs went for it and are now playing Champions League football.

That's the past, but surely we can voice concerns about the future when we see a similar pattern developing without being lambasted by those who see no wrong whatsoever??!

The more ambition we show, the higher up the table we will finish. I'm convinced of that.

I'm also convinced we will ultimately fail if we don't play an advanced central midfielder as opposed to another holding one. Toure was that advanced player today and it paid dividends, just like Gerrard, Fabregas, Scholes and Lampard do.

Mistakes have been made and mistakes will continue to be made, but once we are trying to play the game properly and giving it our all, there will be little or no complaints.

Until that happens, please respect those who look at it this way and stop trying to imply that we are either ungrateful or fucking knee-jerk.

Thanks.

From reading various thread's it has become clear that Mancini is now at the point that he is splitting the board and that we cannot have a basic debate without claim and counter-claim, even if it's not really true or really relevant.

What I find strange is that even though there is no real 'Mancini Out' mantra, there is such a veciforous voice in support of him which is not necessarily needed - overboard if you will.

I can only see this going one way....................

No, I didn't know what to make of it because I said last game, I didn't understand why, after playing Jo early season & dumping RSC, he suddenly played a bloke in RSC he's told has no future at the club. It was one of the stupid bizarre Bob moments I'm talking about.

My biggest worry about Jo today was for Bob's sake; if we'd lost, he would be getting fucking slaughtered now & a couple more defeats would lead to a fan's revolt. It was a big gamble but it worked & unlike his other fucking disasters, was almost a stroke of genius imo.

Jo= controversial selection which could easily be fixed with substitution but would cause ructions amongst City fans if we lost & be blamed even if he played like Maradona.

Defenders changing for unproven youngsters in difficult games = fucking stupid & dangerous game losing type decision ruining all the work done on defence & making team less confident to go forward.

Well if you are putting me in that bracket then before you cement the cover shut i'd like to point out that what i have been saying is that it may not be down to Mancin that we haven't shown ambition.. i might not be right, but what i see is very similar set ups and very different performances.. that to me suggests it is the players getting it right or not. Thats my point and im banging on about it because it is pissing me off that everyone and his dog is assuming it is Mancini to blame. Players have to take some responsibility for the way they play and that is one of the reasons i have also been banging on about patience.. for the players to get their own mojo on regardless of how they are sent out. It will come, maybe it is starting, maybe it is just a preview glimpse... but i am utterly unconvinced that it is something Mancini is doing or not doing that is making the difference at the moment.
And to be honest Dub as i am pretty much the only person arguing that point regardless of results at least i have the consistency to be saying that it may not be all about the manager.. on the day on the pitch.

( Arsenal just collapsed against spurs on Sat.. is that the formation he sent out or the mentality he gave them before the game? no is it fuck, it is all about the players on the day)

No it isn't. Not at all. If you read it you'll see there are other words involved too & that word is just one of them but not the most important one. I'll leave you to try & figure out what the difference is between playing somone on the left of the front/midfield 3 & putting two players together on one side of the back four is but I won't give you any clues... oh bugger.

Explaining this is no fun & I'm bored now. Goodnight.

Boateng and Boyata are the two players you mentioned, they are both young, they are both defenders. Therefore you are calling Boateng and Boyata unproven.

So yes that is the point you were making in any way shape or form.

Goodnight.

That's not a bad attempt at avoiding to dig a hole.

Goodnight Ted.
