FFS surely not?!
Steve Bruce wants to take forgotten striker Roque Santa Cruz to Sunderland.
Bolton hope to make defender Dedryck Boyata a season-long loan signing from Man City.
Sebastian Coates has confirmed that he would reject a move to Manchester City in favour of joining Liverpool.
Both Premier League clubs have made moves for the Uruguayan central defender, who is currently playing in his homeland with Nacional.
The 20-year-old revealed earlier this week that he expected a decision to be made on his future by the weekend.
Now Coates has confirmed that Liverpool would be his preferred destination, mainly due to the influence of compatriot Luis Suarez, who is currently at Anfield.
"I'd prefer Liverpool to Manchester City, but would need to see what they have to offer and would compare them," Coates told Ovacion.
"But having the help of Luis Suarez would be very important. I will be going to England, we are just missing a few details now.
"The Liverpool offer ticks all boxes, so fair to say it's a done deal. Luis's success is important for me as another Uruguayan joining.
"Liverpool is a club with great tradition and history, and Luis would be a great help to me. Suarez has spoken to Kenny Dalglish and his managers about my signing.
"He said it will be great having a Uruguayan with him, we chatted for quite a while, as he is someone I know well."
Coates shunned offers from elsewhere in Europe and admits he was waiting for the Premier League.
"My intention was always to wait, there were many rumours that I wanted England, but nothing concrete. Fortunately we have now received the offer," he said.
Coates, who has Scottish ancestry, does not qualify for a work permit automatically as he has not played in enough games but he would almost certainly be granted one on appeal.

I'm thinking the contrary.....at City he would have to wait behind Kompany, Lescott, and most likely K. Toure...that looks like a daunting task especially since the first 2 are relatively young still. At Liverpool, he only has Carragher, Agger, and Skrtel ahead of him at CB now that Kygriakos is gone. These first 2 are injury prone and the former is old. Coates is only 20...he'll do well at Liverpool.

So you think he's not up for the challenge of dismantling Lescott in the starting eleven? Then he has no ambition.....

i was merely saying that i think he thinks his chances of playing and being successful at Liverpool are higher than here at City. Regardless of ambition, skill and experience will prevail in my opinion. For instance, look at Man U. Vidic and Ferdinand are a proven, experienced duo at the back and when they're both healthy it's gonna be hard for Smalling, Evans, and Jones to oust them from their spots in big games despite the trio wanting and aspiring to (even though Smalling appears to be RB now). Just like at City....Kompany will continue to be #1 CB if he's healthy and Lescott/K.Toure will surely be #2.
Coates surely aspires to play but its a smart move on his part...moving somewhere that not only has a fellow countryman of his in the squad but has aging players in his position in the squad, ensuring that he will likely get playing time due to injuries and rest in the short term, and then in the future (possibly the near future) he will be able to oust them from their positions.
Aspiration or not, experience and being "proven" will trump aspiration and hard work.
(unless this 20 yr old turns out to be some crazy good wonder-defender, which I doubt)

So you're saying as long as he's playing that's the main thing? That was my original point. That's not showing ambition. To go to a club with 'ageing' defenders because you've got more chance of playing, than go to club that is more likely to win something is a lack of ambition.
Vladimir Weiss has revealed that Wigan are in the frame to land his signature.
The 21-year-old Slovakian winger is set to leave Manchester City, and had been strongly linked with Ukrainian giants Dynamo Kiev.
But he insists that a deal with Kiev is not yet complete and he has options with Wigan, but also in Spain.
"Wigan and a Spanish clubs are immensely interested," he told CAS.
"I believe my future will be resolved within hours."
Weiss explained that although talks with Kiev were on-going, nothing had been signed.
He added: "One thing is for sure, I want to leave Manchester. It is not true that I am already a Dynamo player, as has been put in the media."
Joey Barton has moved a step closer to joining Queens Park Rangers after revealing he will undergo a medical at the club on Wednesday.
As revealed by Sky Sports sources, the Newcastle midfielder began talks with the Hoops earlier in the day after being placed on the transfer list earlier in the summer.
Despite featuring prominently in Newcastle's opening two Premier League fixtures, the club are determined to lose ties with him after he criticised the their transfer policies via his Twitter account.
And he has since revealed on the social networking site: "Going for a medical now, still no contract offer from NUFC.......think that just about makes my mind up."
He added: "Don't want to leave Newcastle........I've made that clear but my hands are tied."

i'm guessing that there's a difference in our perceptions of ambition. i was referring to his ambition of playing...i still do think he will win things at LFC. They've made a good team (even if they did overpay for it) and will be good soon. I guess that's where our opinions differ...you don't think LFC will win (or that's how i perceived your posts), thus you view Coates going there as a lack of ambition..whereas I do think LFC will win things (as well as City) which is why i focused on the differing prospects of playing time at each club (plus the incentive of Suarez helping Coates acclimate to a new continent, country, language, league, playing tempo etc.).
