I know we made hard work of it in the end but for around forty minutes yesterday we looked like champions. From one down to 4-1 with some devastating football. I believe.

Defeatist in the house.

I still don't believe as much as I want to and as much as others do. There's a massive fuck up coming somewhere along the line and I fear it'll be the derby.

Having said that, I'm a believer in the sense of mixing it comfortably with the big boys, I just don't think we'll come close to winning the league just yet (though of course I hope we do).

I may be wrong but I sense you weren't around when we WERE the big boys. For people like me we are just coming back into our rightful place.

Also I didn't agree, bearing in mind we only just got squeaked out of 4th, that our target this year should be 4th, as so many loonies were saying in the summer. With the players we signed the target was always going to be the league. We may well not win it, but we'll be having a bloody good go!

And the derby will be 0-0 btw!

I actually think the draw, rather than a rags defeat, yesterday was a good result. Not because I'm a defeatest but because imo, if we get a bit of a cushion for 4th place & a big gap between us & Spurs, Bob will be more confident to risk losing the odd game in order to really try & win the title rather than just consolidating 4th.

The way it's looking at the moment, we may have to win at Stamford Bridge &/or Goodison &/or Anfield etc, as Bob will probably play for a draw at OT. He may get an accidental win by doing so but it's more likely they'll score from a corner etc. If the 4th place battle is tight, he'll play for a draw at those other tough places too & be cautious at home, settle for a point, v Spurs. Those drawn/lost games will lose us the title.

We need to average 2 points a game to end up on 75 points which will probably be 3rd place. That is a tough ask. I would be delighted with that.

My own reaction to the Spurs rags game was genuinely that it wasn't so dissimilar to the derby.. in the end there were very very few clear cut chances and while it was a more open game and looked more entertaining both teams went for bypassing the midfield after a short time and sacrificing forward mid support to make sure they didn't caught out. Spurs were definitely not going for it like they have recently and the rags were also cautious.

I agree that the draw was good to help us gain a cushion and that could well tip the balance for Bob to allow the team to go for it in some of the key games. If we are serious about going for the title then we simply cannot afford to lose more than a couple of games. We have serious counterattacking credentials and there is no team now that will not acknowledge that and be wary of it, including the rags, so on that basis the derby at the swamp will be interesting and i can see them setting up shop similar to the first derby or spurs yesterday.. ie with plenty of an eye on not losing and imo on that basis City would be stupid to go and adopt anything other than similar tactics even if that suggests a stalemate more than anything else. We may see that as an opportunity lost again and tbh i think a draw for the rags would be a better result for them.

Yep I'm definitely part of the 'new breed' (blue since 1989) so I've pretty much seen nothing but mediocrity and failure so it's only natural to have an inferiority complex.

I'd love to have been around for the glory days and have the memories to drive me on now, but I don't.

I'm old breed and have witnessed the successes of the sixties/seventies and know all about our voyages in the netherlands of football too. So much so, that I always congratulate teams on winning the league etc. Wishing it was us. This is one area where we differ from arrogant scouse and United fans, I know ,you know, we know it's not our right to win something. We have to earn that right. Tell that to a rag though !, explain it to a scouse ( 1 or 2) that they are finished, they still think
silly things like 'King Kenny' is the saviour !

I always believe we should try and win every game.

However of the eight games away , i'll be happy if Chelsea and United hold us to draws. I think they could do that. All other away games are definitely winable.

All our home games are winable and we must aim to do that , that would be 21 points thank you !

This title is going to the wire and City will be in the chase. The only concern I have is if Arsenal are up for the fight ?
As long as they are involved it keeps the idiots in the press off our back, giving them chance to splat United and Arsenal
all over the press. Which, by the way , as far as i am concerned is brill ! Pressure stays off City.

Like Brian Kidd said, the title is for United to lose. ...... and they will.

I can see Chelsea wanting to hammer United, but I think City can turn them both over, we have the players.

Conversely, 10 wins and 5 draws (which is quite achievable) would see us with 80 points, which might just be enough to win it, depending on other team's results.

I think I heard it quoted somewhere this week-end that Ancelloti had just set Chelsea a target of 80 points, in order to win the League this season so, who knows.......

Whatever we do at the swamp, if we're to win the title, assuming the rags keep winning all their home games & the odd one away, we will have to pull out at least a couple of wins at tough grounds. It's unlikely we'll get every point we expect to get in the other games (everyone slips up occasionally here & there) so we're going to need some big away results.

Imo the key to that is scoring even moreso than defending. When we get in front we're a tough nut to crack. Feeding ballsin to Dzeko could be the key. The goal that Tevez scored from a 1st time dink into the 6 yard box is the kind of early ball into the danger area I've been moaning about. We should be putting those in 30 times per game, both near & far post, from set & open plays; not just once. THAT was the ball Giggs or Kevin Sheedy etc would play before the defence is set, rather than the dross AJ & Co keep serving up.

I think this title race comes down to the rags away form.

If their 2 wins and 8 draws record is fairly hopeless and would only result in 27 points away from home, if they continue to blitz everyone at home, the fact that 9 of their remaining games are away from home could be pivotal. (And with any luck Chelsea will get their act together for both matches they still have to play vs the filth)

The effect of the Chump's Lg could be a factor, paticularly away from home, with their squad being stretched, full of old gits a glass camel etc.
