Summer spending

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Re: Summer spending

Manchester City have been linked with a summer move for Atletico Madrid's Spain Under-21 goalkeeper Joel.

The 21-year-old began his youth career at Getafe before moving to the Vicente Calderon in 2005.

He has made two senior appearances for Atletico to date and was sent out on loan last month to Rayo Vallecano until the end of the season.

It is there he is believed to have caught the attention of the Premier League leaders, with City scouts going to watch the player in action first-hand.

It is now understood that City have contacted the Primera Liga outfit about a deal for the youngster, who has two years remaining on his Madrid contract and is valued at around seven million Euros.

City have good relations with the Atletico Madrid hierarchy following the signing of Sergio Aguero last summer and it is understood they may be willing to do a deal.

However, any discussions are unlikely to take place until the end of the season and the completion of Joel's loan deal at Vallecano.

I'd been having a huge confidence on him since the CC derby.
He shall keep improving from season to season, imho.

If he's to do so, I think he has to find a team to take him on loan again & imo, most Prem teams will have been scared off by his performances this season.

I've learnt not to argue yr judgement on footy, and yes You caught me off side: I didnt follow his spell @ Wanderers that narrow.
But am I allowed to have a soft spot for a youngster? Given his age eezz normally a bit of a raw mat, but still I can see huge potential for development: he showed wearing the blue that he's good at positioning, got pace and certain glimpses of vision.
The argument of some shit performance within a shit defending line is weak, imo. just to say how different may result a performance if you play alongside a Vincent Kompany or when you are within a shit panicking line like we saw by the Canaries on sunday (f.i.) perhaps not even protected by a gung-oh set of midfield.
I still have faith in him... also given the fact that there is not such an offer of fine CBs worldwide, as understood by seeing the most regarded "talents" (Luiz, Coates, Savic) into the EPL.

EDIT: Not to forget that, I my dream purchase (J. Martinez) will come true, we still have the additional option to line Yaya at CB if needed.

I thought Boyata looked like a fine prospect, for the reasons you mention, but after a promising start, I thought he cost us dearly on some occasions when he played in our 1st team last season & he seems to have continued like that in his games for Bolton. I've seen young players start off looking like world beaters & then drop to being mediocre before so it's hard to always guess correctly.

I'll just trust whatever decision our coaches make.

Think he gave away a silly pen in the last min for Belgium 21s against england, they lost 4 nil. I think Boyata was captain but cant be certain.
derby day the scores were level,
then the goat was fed by neville,

Excellent shout; he's the one player we need over all others, in my opinion.

Moreover, just been reading the Daily Mirror this morning at my Mum's (she buys it, I just read it when I go there) and there's an article claiming that Liverpuddle are going to be spending big this summer (supposedly quoting John Henry) to take them back to their 'rightful' position at the top of the Prem.

Players such as Hazard, Martinez, Keita etc etc were all mentioned, although why such players would go to Scouse1 when it's unlikely they'll be in the Champions League next season, baffles me. However, it would seem that they certainly will be spending some appreciable amounts but not a single comment was made about FFP implications.

I don't know what the state of Liverpuddle's finances is, bt if they've got CL aspirations they, like Chelsea who are in the same boat, are going to have to watch how they go. On the other hand, any and every future City purchase will have the media trumpeting about FFP, irrespective of how and why these may be financed.

The thing is, none of those players will go there. Liverpool tried to spend big last year and ended up with Adam, Carroll, Downing and Henderson. I can't see Liverpool being a threat to us for years, unless Chelsea and Arsenal continue to decline.

'King Kenny' goes on about the Carling Cup being the first trophy of many, but after all the money they've spent, look how far behind us they are in the league. They're not even top 4 contenders. They've made no progress in the league at all and are about as good as Newcastle and slightly better than Norwich.

But they HAVE made progress. A trophy and Europe next season.

Don't get me wrong. Kenny being in charge is a good thing because it means they'll remain shit. However, even if we win the league this season I'm gutted they did us in the League Cup. I wanted that bad.

Roberto Mancini has made Real Madrid star Gonzalo Higuain his No. 1 choice to replace Carlos Tevez at the Etihad Stadium.

Real Madrid are prepared to offer Gonzalo Higuain to Manchester City - even though the striker is wanted by Chelsea.

I'm down...although we dont really need a new high profile, high wage striker...if this is for Dzeko, I'm down. But definitely not for Aguero,
Roberto Mancini admits he would be happy to have Gonzalo Higuain in his Manchester City squad, but insists he will not let Sergio Aguero join Real Madrid in exchange.

Speculation has claimed that Mancini has lined up Higuain as his primary summer transfer target as he looks to fine-tune his squad at the Etihad Stadium.

There have been reports that Mancini wants to sign Higuain to replace his Argentina international team-mate Carlos Tevez, who is back at City trying to reclaim his place in the first-team squad.

However, there have also been rumours that Primera Liga leaders Real want to sign Aguero and are prepared to offer £6million and Higuain for the striker.

Aguero has enjoyed a stunning impact at City since joining the club last summer from Real's local rivals Atletico Madridand has scored 21 goals in 37 appearances.

Mancini, though, says there is no chance that Aguero will be leaving the Premier League table-toppers, despite his interest in his international colleague.

The City boss said: "Higuain is a top player, but we don't want to sell Aguero for nothing.

"It's impossible for us to sell him.

"He will stay here, but if Higuain wants to come here then we are happy."

IF the story has even a small grain of truth in it, £6 million looks like a misprint; there must be some digits missing from this figure.

Any player exchange should surely be focused on Tevez or, failing that, we could throw in Adebayor instead, for good measure.

Despite being in the big money league you still have to buy 3 to get a goodun. Look how shite Cavani and Levazi were tonight.Maybe we should be more creative. That winger at Bilbao looked great to me.
