even Sir Joseph thought so...this is from the Guardian's match report
"Joey Barton tweeted with customary elan, "Go on the birds", and for the next 20 minutes GB peppered the Brazilian goal."

You can say what you like about women's football but at least its played in the right spirit by people with a genuine love for the game. They are not there for the money. Some male players could learn a thing or two from the women's game, look at that goal last night, I'm pretty sure that a high percentage of male footballers would have looked at getting a pen in that situation but no the kid stayed on her feet and smashed it in and probably had the greatest feeling of her life.
From a personal point of view there was an element of the green eyed monster, gutted I'm not 10 years younger but I am proud of the tiny part I have played in women's football in this country over the past 20 years. I'm so happy that people are finally seeing that the women can do a bit and have as much dedication as there male counterparts. I think finally some respect has made its way into the women's game and the Olympics has been an amazing advert for our sport.

Omar Abdulrahman to come in and learn from magic David? Only young player, had a great Olympics. Would be good for shirt sales too, not a reason to sign average players like the rags do.

Haha. Did you watch it? I've been amazed at the standard the women's competition, to be honest, and I feel a bit ashamed to even be saying that. I've not watched a lot of women's footy in my time. Maybe this is the tipping point for the women's game in Britain.
Where is SoF with her greater insight?

I did watch it and, I was initially astounded at the size of the crowd. Bloody amazing and what a feeling it must have been for those players to play in that atmosphere (which didn't also sound like it was made up of squealy girls and schoolies like it used to when watching women's footie....it sounded like a proper football crowd for an international match).
Technically the standard of play, speed of the game and overall technique is unrecognisable to the game 5-10 years ago.
I must confess that I watch with a bit more of an active interest since I have known wozza and actually seen her and the city ladies play...I was amazed how good some of them were when I first saw them. And these girls are, it's fair to say, a level above the blue girls in the main (not you of course Woz...I think you are a much better keeper than the girl playing for Team GB last night who was the weakest link....she still played like a bit of a bird...and you don't).
Doom; I also asked Wozza that question and she said that she either "knew them" or they were "too young"...I reckon she would and has personally. Lying hoebag.

I have no interest in women at this moment in time. Ask Ant....True story.
Abby Wambach does look like she could cause some damage though if you catch my drift.
