I find the whole England thing ridiculously boring. My post was in reaction to Carl's hilariously over the top post aimed at Roy Hodgson. Just been so disillusioned with the England set up for about 10 years and i find it hard to give a shit whether we win or lose. It's just not a likable bunch of players. Cheering Rooney or Ashley Cole or Terry always pained me.

I wasn't personalising it to you mate, in my experience the majority of rags I've known have always fucked off England as it's only the scum that matter for them. That attitude used to royally wind me up and while there used to be a small minority of City fans of the same ilk I never thought too highly of their views on it either. Each to their own although I do agree with your sentiments on the players you mentioned

I used to watch England and look forward to internationals, but the whole international scene is very poor, the friendlies and use of the whole squad for a run out, makes the game boring and is just a run out for some trying to not get injured. Non commital challenges etc. The tournaments are good, but I like watching all the teams and want england to do well, however, I have no expectations whatsoever of England. Whoever picks the squads is a Joke, some of the tactics are beyond a joke and even before a ball is kicked, I am usually pissed off with the choices made. It came to a head when Hodgson picked every player including the Tea Lady ahead of Micah Richards. I know Micah isnt the worlds best RB, but he is better than the dross that Hodgson continues to pick.

In fact Hodgson is useless and totally uninspiring. There was a clamour to disguard a foreign coach and go English, what a fantastic decision that was!!! If English players cant be arsed to play well against shit opposition time and time again, why should we be bothered to watch it?

A lot of truth in that. Have a look at the banners/flags on show next time you're forced to choose between an England game or An Evening With Susan Boyle.

It'll be pretty similar at the England game.

I have never knowingly met a City fan who enthusiastically supports England.

Correction - I think Spiv does.

Besides the whole media furore that puts people off, maybe there's a regional element involved. The people I know who are England fans are predominantly southern or from the North East. Those tucked away up there are probably used to travelling long distances to see their team play away, so another trip down to London will be like water off a duck's back to them. Southerners have better transport connections, and generally see London as a city that's easy to get to and worth visiting semi-regularly.

Not supporting your national side is a sad state of affairs in my opinion.

Everyone supports their club, that goes without saying and the dislike or hatred of other teams players is part and parcel of being a fan of your particular club.

Supporting England doesn't mean you are supporting the twats we barrack every day, it means we support that badge, this country.

I will never stop supporting my country, no matter who plays in the team, just like I would never stop supporting City because they brought in players or managers we didn't like.

Reality check is in order. Every other country's fans go all out and really get behind the team. We seem to have pockets of supporters. It's sad and disgraceful.

I consider myself British.

I support Britain in every sport they play. If there isn't a British team/representative, I support whoever I admire most for their style of play, an 'underdog' team, or Bosnia & Herzegovina, not necessarily in that order.

Assuming that everyone who lives in/is from England considers/should consider themselves English stinks of the arrogance that supporters of other nations often accuse the English of.

Its difficult to support the team when you have a fucking inept manager at the helm, picking scum players because they are scum players. Its a fucking joke , this does not stop me from being in rant and passionate mode on the day though. The 2-2 draw masked over so many inept performances It was frightening.

How anyone with half a brain cant see that Johnson and Carrick belong in the bin is anyones guess.

The worst example of him picking scum players was playing Phil Jones on the right of a midfield 3 a position which he has never played in his life! Meanwhile Rodwell, who would be far more accustomed to that role is sat on the bench whilst Jones wanders aimlessly around the pitch like a lost little boy

I'll always support my national team whoever is in charge and whoever is on the field, it doesn't mean I can't whinge about things or have an opinion on said matters. My biggest gripe is that it is no longer, and for a while now, about football matters and I think most peoples complaints come more with the FA than anything else. I was one that championed Hodgson's appointment as I thought he'd have his own mind and pick the team and tactics. Since then I have been proved wrong and it's quite clear why certain players are picked over others. It's always the same few, even though they don't deserve to be anywhere near a strating line-up. The Rags, Dippers and Arsenal are big business where the FA are concerned and they'll shoe-horn their players in to ensure capacity crowds, TV revenues and boutique sales. Due to that, we almost always see and unbalanced side with the likes of Gerard playing alongside Lampard and more recently, Duncan Edwards at RB, CB, DM, AM, CF and keeper to boot (OK, I exaggerated the keeper bit, but you get my drift). Don't get me wrong, I don't think Jones is a bad player and he is good as a utility man but when there are players who can do a far better job in a set position, why leave them out over him?

The next big thing will be Zaha and although he's still not really proved he will be straight in the squad and start getting game time. He's already had a call and played in a friendly last year after the rumours that he would be signing for United which showed that even the publicity of a possible Rag player will be reaped by them at the FA.
In the words of my Old Man, "Life will never be the same without Man City, so get it in while you can".

I was at the airport during the game so following a min by min on the guardian and it sounded like Milner (esp second half) had a good game.

I then check the Telegraph player ratings today and he gets..... 4/10.....

About right or not??

Not a chance mate. As DH says, whatever a player like Milner does it won't get the plaudits as there's too many who want to laud the Rag players for all they have done for English football.

6/10 for me and if it wasn't for Rooney's goal, he would have been 4/10, goal took him to 5.

was rooney's a deflection? I've read some people saying it is pure genius, and others saying it was a tasty deflection. I haven't seen it yet.

Definite deflection - the Brazilian player bends away from the ball and it hits his back. Yet another of his lucky goals which go down as 'wonder goals'.

The arrogance isn't due to that, it's due to the assumption by some people that everyone born in England should consider themselves English, which is exactly what I said.

Arrogance to me would mean we turn up to tournaments expecting to walk it.

We are lucky if we qualify for the tournament never mind win one.

I understand we may not be anywhere near the top teams in the world, but I will continue to support England.

Indian born to 2 Indian parents in England, lives in England ... English or not? I'd say that's down to how he views himself.

My passport doesn't say English anywhere on it, the money I use isn't English, I can't vote for an English parliament, so no, not really.
