Cardiff provided the template on how to nullify him. Double team with a defender blocking the down-the-line option.

Only took one game to work it out.

i just think you should have posted that in the "Second Impressions of Jesus" thread instead of this one. That's all.

I would have started a new thread, but the new thread police are out in force today. I don't want to get crucified.

That's the point of dangerous players. If they need to be doubled up on, this opens up a pocket of space elsewhere.

it opens a pocket but we didnt expolit it at all aguero for some reason doesnt like passing, navas making room and agureo running with blinkers on ending up going nowhere, that wont work either.

Agreed, though what you're saying is slightly besides the point. Players like Navas stretch play in a way in which we were unable to last season. What he does off the ball is just as important as what he does on it; the fact that he clings to that touchline and the opposition know how jet-heeled he is means we should be able to wedge open a deepish defence. We were shit at it on Sunday but we'll get there.

he came into the middle looking for the ball a lot, I'm still not sure if it was as-per-instructions or if it's just something he does. We lost our width and played into Cardiff's hands every time it happened though.

Silva was doing a lot of this too (not that it is unusual in his case) and in my mind it was because Yaya and Fernand, for whatever reason, spent a lot of time in no man's land. So much of our play went around them instead of through them. (I'm sure somebody will come back with stats about how many times Yaya touched the ball but I can only remember one attack that he actually lead with any real intent - not that this is definitely his fault, as it looked like he was instructed to sit deeper than Fernandinho)

I've got so many crosses at home it's like I'm Jesus!

(did I get it?)
"I used to be 6 foot 2 with curly hair, look what it's done to me"

"In my career so far it's the most important goal. You score the goal in the last minute to win the title. You're not sure if that's ever going to happen in your career again. I wish I could tell you how I did it but I can't. I thought for all the world that Mario was going to have a go himself but he just moved it on one more and it fell at my feet and I just thought: 'Hit the target, hit it as hard as you can and hit the target.' And it went in."

I don't know if it's instructions or otherwise but he was bought as a winger, he needs to hug the touchline rather than crowding the centre.

He's beat his man quite a few times already.

Considering at the same age SWP began his rapid drop into the football abyss I'm surprised you're so quick to point the finger.

Gone off the boil a bit last few games and looked leggy after a very promising second quarter of the season.
Is he struggling from the lack of a winter break he normally gets or is he getting found out, maybe a bit of both? Negredo also has been struggling recently.

Last night he was quite poor imo, we really needed him to provide an outlet. Maybe give him a rest.
