I don't think it justifies the extent of investment, the state of the art training facilities, the supposed quality squad and the management teams we have had. Not good enough.
Sustained success doesn't happen overnight. Or a season. The state of the art training facilities are only now starting to produce players as it takes time. Lots of it. I dare say we haven't tried as many players from it as we could've done with hindsight, but there you go. We can't all have crystal balls. Also, when you are aiming for the top it is difficult to give a youngster time to bed in as just a few dud results can be crucial in the PL title race.
The investment is not substantially more than the dippers or rags over the last three or four years. Can't remember seeing them in the CL much recently.
Also is 'transition' not just another way of saying 'evolving'? Teams that stand still get left behind as rivals then improve
we've had investment long enough for some signs that we are going to have sustained success - I don't see any sign of it coming. I had assumed the training facilities would benefit the senior squad too. Again no sign of that. We should be able to carry one or two youngsters if they're good enough. Other teams do.
Can we transition or evolve backwards? That's what it looks like we are doing.
What would you class as sustained success? Genuine question as I think we are at that position myself. We have finished in top 4 for six seasons now and only Arsenal currently have a longer run. We have qualified from the group stage the last four seasons. We have won three domestic pots. If that isn't consistent success then, pray tell, what is?
