Surprised he didn't play today, Posession was a shambles at times.

He didn't look best pleased but personally i think Hughes got it spot on. Barry was superb in the DeJong position. There may be matches when he needs to play both though.
Last year we played both defensive midfielders due to lack of any other options. This year i think Les will swap it around according to the oppo.

Blackburn bypassed their midfield most of the time so it made sense that we wouldn't need many ball-winners in that area.

Yeah check out the stats on the OS.
Our midfield hardly had to make any tackles.
Maybe we didn't keep possession as well as we may have with De Jong playing as an additional holding midfielder and that might have given a bit more support to the defence but we are looking back at a pretty fair performance so got to say we probably got it right against the opposition we were facing.

I was shocked de jong didnt play..Hughes does like his DM player to add extra cover for our problamatic defense.
Only thing i can think of is the manager has gone for a wider formation instead of a battle in the centre with Blackburn.
It fookin worked a treat.
Bellers and SWP took the game right to the bye line and dragged Blackburn apart. They was knackered by the 60th minute.
For this game the manager did his home work and we got half the wins in our 1st away game that we did all last season.
Very well done.

Cant argue with tactics or team selection today. Hughes nailed it!!

Yeah sorry the forum is miles better.
Bit more sober ow :)
What about big Zab too?
Seriously does not deserve to not be in that starting 11.
Better then Richards imo.
Hughes sure is going to have his hands full keeping this bunch together.

Feel sorry for De Jong in a way as when we get Lescott and Kompany comes back the lads gonna struggle to get in the team.

Blackburn use the long ball to Pedersen a lot ( not to mention any ball at all into the box) so playing Micah instead of Zabba is a very logical decision.

I'm not sure who i rate more, Kompany or de Jong. Difficult one that.

Not everyone is going to play every week. We have a squad now. A squad that means we can compete regardless of injuries and suspensions. De Jong will be an important player this season, and he'll play a lot of games, there's no doubt about that.

I just think it was a tactical decision forced by playing 4-4-2. Basically Barry was doing what he would have done.

Personally I love De Jong's two footed sliding tackles - he was at it again for the Netherlands in the International against England.

It's funny having a squad. Most on here thoought SWP wouldn't get a game 3 weeks ago, 2 assists 1st game of the season though. Players will be rotated as we need them now, it's a foreign concept to us, but I hear the top sides do it reguarly.

For the most part SWP was quiet, but apart from the two assists, there was a great cameo late on when he cut inside two Blackburn defenders on their goalline, which deserved better.
Hopefully he can build on today's performance as just when we had all started to give up on him, he proved today that he's far from finished
