Choose the matchday music

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Fans to choose pre match music

Postby CTID Hants » Mon Aug 17, 2009 4:28 pm

From the OS........

We want your musical matchday selections.
The stands of Maine Road and CoMS have always been home to people who know a thing or two about Manchester’s other great cultural export... music.

It’s no coincidence that some of the best bands and artists ever to tread the boards in this city are also fans of the football club at the very heart of it.

From Doves to Mike Pickering, Oasis to Johnny Marr and Ian Curtis to Badly Drawn Boy, they all feel the same as you about City.

Now City and Umbro are coming to you, the fans, for some musical inspiration. We need your three-track, City-inspired Umbro Playlist to get the stadium in the mood and be the soundtrack of the match.

Submit your three tracks and 30 words on why you want to hear them and we’ll pick the ones we think are the most inspiring, the most electric, and the most foot-tappingly, arm-wavingly, badge-kissingly beautiful to play at home games this season, starting with Wolves on Saturday.

To submit your tracks, please join the official MCFC Facebook page and visit the discussion board.

So what are you gonna choose?

This will really date me, but didn't the Hollies come from Manchester?. Their first single was a beauty--"Searching" And don't get me started on Freddie and the Dreamers....

PS didn't the Bee Gees originally come from Manchester? Would they qualify for inclusion? "Stayin' Alive" might be good

Yes, the Hollies were from manchester. So were Herman's Hermits.
The bee gee brothers were born on isle of Man, but liverd in Manc for a while before moving to Australia at a quite young age. Iwouldn't call them a Manchester band ...

The BeeGees did manage to live in Denton and Clayton in that time if I remember correctly so it's either them or Shane bloody Ward!

How about a bit of Rick Wakeman keyboard tinkling?

Roll With It by Oasis always makes me think of City cos they used to play it before the games when I had a season ticket as a kid (95/96). I'd love it if they brought it back.

They used to live just by the railway bridge in Chorlton as kids, used to pass it on the way to Maine Road. Somehow, City coming out to Herman's Hermits isn't likely to set the atmosphere off

I never said otherwise, just where they later lived (apparently also including Chorlton)

From Wiki:
"Born on the Isle of Man to English parents, the family lived in various locales that included Chorlton-cum-Hardy, Manchester, England and Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, where they began their musical careers"

Surely Pissing In the Wind by Badly Drawn Boy is natural choice?

I used to love us playing Nightmare by brainbug. I thought it was appropriate :) we played it in 07/08 season at home and our record that season at home was great :).
