Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!
by King Kev » Sat Sep 05, 2009 11:42 am
The crowd of 94123 for the Barcelona match the other week was the biggest crowd City have ever played in front of outside of a cup final. This got me thinking about what the biggest crowd was that I have been a part of.
From what I can remember mine are;
Maine Road
May 11 1985 V Charlton - 47285 - was the official attendance but many believe there were far many more packed into the old ground that sunny afternoon.
Eastlands
Sep 13 2008 V Chelsea - 47331 - Just 209 under the ground's capacity, I reckon this will be beaten this season
Away
Aug 25 2007 V Arsenal - 60114 - I thought one of my visits to the swamp was going to win this but as I haven't been there for a few years now my first visit to The Emirates wins.
Neutral
May 30 1999 V Gillingham at Wembley - 76935 - The biggest crowd I have ever been part of at a City match was the most important match in our history!
How about you?

Maine Rd 52,532. Everton FA Cup 6th round replay in 1981
This figure is etched in my head for some reason. 68 short of Maine Rd's official capacity at the time.
Besides that
Wembley 100,000. 1981 Cup Final.
City and sniffing knickers.
Come on Blues.

Home (maine Road) - 1989 5 - 1 Scum. Fantastic atmosphere, never been betterd anywhere, at any time. Stood at the back of the Kippax at the start of the gaem, by the Time Hinch had scored, I was right at the front.
Home (Eastlands) - 2008 - 1 - 3 Chelsea. Cant remember an atmosphere like it at eastlands. The first game of the take over, Robinho's debut goal, the roof nearly came off.
Away - Scum pit - 1990 1 - 1. Ian brightwell special, ensured a draw. Never seen so many rags leave the place after Brighty scored.
Neutral - 1981 FA Cup Final - Spurs. Sat next to spurs fans, and You cant do that now, without it getting a bit tasty. Mind you I was 10 years old. Gutted when The Hutch scored the own goal, off Hoddles Free kick.

43,246 for that game. I bet you've been in bigger crowds than that at Maine Rd.

Proving the lie that the Swamp has been sold out every game since Adam was a small boy, just 40,247 on that day. I can remember being shocked at seeing great swathes of empty teracing on the Stretford End (which wasn't that big in the first place) And if you were at the first of those derbies, you surely saw a much larger exodus of Filth than cleared off when Bobby beat Slippery Jim all ends up with that glorious screamer.
I bet you've been in loads of bigger crowds than that one too. You have brought up some lovely memories but not really answered the question. Go and stand in the corner!

Aye. I was at both of those.

Surely that 200 is for segregation though! would explain derby alway's being less as more needed between us and the scum.
Never been in a really big crowd ;o( but im hoping to have enough points for emirates at the end of season.

Queen at Knebworth park about 200,000+ apparently and I was on the front row . . . nice
Footiewise apart from cup/play offs its probably got to be one of the derbies at the swamp seeing at how they have the highest capacity.

I suppose it's my own fault for not being more specific with the question.

81 cup final 100,000
Barcelona 09 - 94,000
81 replay 92,000
99 Wembley - 76,000
Plus some big ones standing in the kippax throughout the 80's that I know was huge as even for the length of the kippax you couldn't move your arms up, or barely turn around.
Q. Which is your favourite goal? A. It has to be the second goal I scored during the last-ever Maine Road derby. I heard the fans singing a new song: "Who let the Goat out?" and I thought, "I'm having that one!" Eyal [Berkovic] placed a perfectly weighted pass into my stride. I held off two defenders and the ball bounced in front of me, allowing me to make a gentle half-volley over Barthez. It was my 100th goal for Man City and particularly satisfying to score against Man Utd.
