Striker shortage!

With Ade likely to be banned for Sunday, who or what formation do we play? Bellamy up top with SWP and Petrov wide feels like our only real solution?

With them as our three up front we would play 80mins of the game in our own half.

All three like the ball to be played ahead of them so they can run the channels. This is bread and butter for United and any other top team so unless we get pin point passing going we are going to struggle with no one to hold the ball up in the opposition's half.

This is one of the prime reasons we lost so many away games last year and a striker who can hold the ball up and bring other into play is essential when playing away from home.

We have to be sublime with our passing if we have any chance to win the derby with Adebayor and Santa Cruz out.

Is the loan window still open? Not saying it is the right way to go but it might be a possiblilty.

Where is Emile Mpenza these days? :-)

4-3-3. Maybe going to a 4-4-2 at times with shauny supporting bellers uptop

----------------Given---------------
Richards--Toure--Lescott--Bridge
----Ireland--De Jong--Barry-----
------Swp----Bellamy----Petrov----

4-4-2 more defensive. Barry can certainly do a job on the left but can see this formation being very narrow. Barry isnt going to bomb down the left but would be more of a left supporting midfielder then a winger. I think zaba can bring alot to the team in the middle, hes got a very good tank on him and we need that at old trafford.

Richards-Toure-Lescott-Bridge
Shauny-De Jong-Zabaleta-Barry
---------Ireland-----------------
--------------Bellamy-------------

4-4-2 wingers! missing de jong there though which well again you prob need that fighter in the middle

Richards-Toure-Lescott-Bridge
Weiss--Ireland--Barry--Petrov
---------Shauny--Bellamy---------

Least we've got a few options despite having one striker :( Other then that shock a few people n stick toure upfront haha..I reckon he could do a job!!..Great feet for a cb

Just reading the official site and basically you can forget Santa Cruz, Tevez, Robinho and now Adebayor. So we're really fucked.

We've got Bellamy and Benjani as our strikers. Should never have put Bojinov out on loan.

Anyway, what does everyone think the team should be? I'm going for:

----------------------Given-------------------

Richards-----Toure-----Lescott-------Bridge

----------------------Kompany------------------

SWP-----------------Barry---------------Weiss

----------------------Ireland--------------------

---------------------Bellamy---------------------

And this smiling Arabic assassin is intent on stealing all the treasures they've nicked off everyone else, and pulverising them into commercial and footballing oblivion as he does so."

So De jong gets argubly the motm for saturday against arsenal (bellamy being the other shout) and you drop him for a player who hasnt played since may?. You have a fully fit international left winger who has the experience in a game like the derby left on the bench? (petrov) and put a right footed youngster in the biggest game of his left on the left. No offence but im glad you aint manager

If needed, I've no match on Sunday so will be free to play; and I'm home grown!!!

If not:

Shay

Micah Kolo Joleon Wayne

Shaun Gazza Schlong Petrov

Stevie

Bellers

We could try

--------------------GIVEN

RICHARDS / ZABBA---TOURE---NEDUM----BRIDGE

SWP-----IRELAND-------BAZZA----PETROV

-----------BELLEMY----LESCOTT / RICHARDS

We are gonna need some presence up front, and I think Lescott or Richards could help out up there with Nedum or Zabba very able stand ins to cover them.

Toure up front is not a bad idea, but I'd be loath to break up a good central defensive partnership. Minimum disruption.

How about David Ball? He is certainly used to scoring goals.

De Jong MOTM is very arguable.

A fully fit international winger who's strengths are crossing onto 5'7 Bellamy's head. Weiss is also fully fit and an international.

When Robinho went to real madrid a right footed youngster guess where they played him.

None taken.

Richards upfront against United. Are you mad. Id much rather see a youth team striker chucked in at the deep end than Richards playing up front.

I think some of you guys have been on the juice too much! Richards/Lescott up front is really wacky.
Yes Kompany is injured.

Instead of Kompany I'd have Zabaleta then

Tevez.................Knee Injury 20th Sep 09
Robinho...............Ankle/Foot Injury 18th Oct 09
B Mwaruwari..........Hip/Thigh Injury no return date
M Johnson.............Groin/Pelvis Injury no return date
R Santa Cruz..........Knee Injury 20th Sep 09
V Kompany............Ankle/Foot Injury 20th Sep 09
Adebayor..............3 match ban
Ireland.................Carrying an ankle injury and looking like he is too!
Bojinov................Loan
Caceido................Loan
Jo......................Loan

Kompany is indeed out of this one as is Benjani, would of been nice to have him as an option on the bench. I didn't think we'd have all our strikers out except for Bellamy.

I'd be tempted to play Petrov up front with Bellamy - he used to be a striker in his earlier days before becoming a winger and we need two up front without a targetman. Pack the midfield and clog up the middle, play narrow and hope the two wippets up front can snatch something.

------------------------GIVEN---------------------------

RICHARDS----TOURE-------LESCOTT-------BRIDGE

---------------DE JONG----------ZABALETA-----------

------------SWP---------------------BARRY-------------

--------------BELLAMY------------PETROV---------

I think Fidel has got the team pretty much spot on, what about on the bench? I'd much rather see Mak/Ball, than Benjani.
