Huckerby Retires

Sorry if it's already been posted but it looks like Huckerby has hung his boots up.....

I really enjoyed watching huckerby play.... his final ball was incredibly frustrating but he still managed to get 20 goals a season, him and the goat were prolific!!!!

Former Blue Huckerby calls time
September 16, 2009

FORMER Manchester City winger Darren Huckerby has retired from the game after suffering a hip injury while playing in America.

The 33-year-old's contract with the San Jose Earthquakes runs out at the end of the current Major League Soccer season and he has decided to call it a day after undergoing surgery.

Huckerby told the Eastern Daily Press: "I've got to give it a chance to see how it is but I'm 99% sure that I am done. I look at where I started at the bottom of the third division and I have done everything that I have wanted to do in the game."

Huckerby enjoyed a successful spell with the Blues from 2000-2003.

Was absolutely fantastic for us in that promotion season. His performance when we were down to 10 men in one game defied belief. I remember Keegan saying how he made so many runs in the game he felt like telling him to stop! Didn't stop KK from dumping him after 2 games in the PL though even though he'd scored in the 1st.

Cheers & thanks Darren, good luck in your retirement.

Huckerby did my head in more than any other player. He had the ability to be a great player but the head of 10 year old player. He never grew out of just running full pelt and trying to do everything himself. His speed made him deadly in the championship but in the premiership he was found lacking due to his lack of brains.

One of those players who was way too good for the Championship but not anywhere near good enough for the Premiership. He showed the gulf there was, and to an extent still is. Good luck to the guy though.

Even when he was banging them in the Championship for us he infuriated me. Couldn't stand him.

Actaully I remember when he scored against Cov and did what Adebayor did and ran to the away suppourt. Nothing was ever said about that.

Was one of those players that was to good for the Championship but not good enough for the Prem. Its amazing he never played for WBA.

Haha he just seems like a player that should have played for them!

The only decent thing Andy Townsend has ever said was to desribe Huckers as "like a speedboat without a driver"

Always gave 110% I liked the guy

Good luck Darren thanks for the blazing runs... straight into the advertising hoardings...

Great for us in the championship under KK.

Didnt have the awareness for the Prem. He was like a crapper version of Bellamy without the golf/text incidents.

Still, i remember him getting those 25 in possibly the most enjoyable season ive had watching City. Thanks Darren.

Incredibly frustrating player to watch. LOOK UP DARREN!

However, played in the team of titans that got us promoted and even managed to get the winner against the toon when we came back up. (I think it was our first goal after a 3-0 lesson from leeds first week)

All the best Darren. Not the best striker we ever had but a central part of that awesome promotion side - fond memories.

That was Millwall at home after Bernabia got sent off. They were a decent team at the time but we still won 2-0. He was immense that game and beat everyone for pace all that season.

He played his part so I wish him all the best.

lmao just had a look for the interview when he signed for the american team and they refferd to him as a lengend of the english game, very funny he took it well! couldnt find it though :(

I allways liked him & disagree with some because i thought he WAS good enough for the prem, allways thought he stood out for norwich deffo good enough for a bottom quater prem team IMO

Must agree with Grob on Huckerby, I always saw him as a poor man's Bellamy. Still we've got the real one now.

I loved that one!

Huckerby's been voted as Norwich City's best ever player in this SkySports poll!

Also our very own Mark Bowen comes in at 7th!
