Man of the match against Fulham

Postby Niall Quinns Discopants » Thu Sep 24, 2009 5:26 am

No poll as I'd kindly ask those who WENT TO GAME to give their shouts on this topic. If I'd put a poll, it'd be filled with people voting who didn't actually saw the game and I would like the 'mancityfans.net man of the match' put in stats centre to be given to someone who actually deserves it rather than based on some blind fan vote.

Thank you
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Mr De Jong was very effective again. He stopped all but one of their attempts at attacking and gets my vote.

Nigel De Jong, absolutely everywhere, only bright spark of a lacklustre performance.

De Jong. Put him self about and broke up all the play. I no some don't like him because he is your unfashionable, not very flash spolier but i think he is great. Was really throwing himself into tackles and doing the dirty job. And to the suprise of some on here I saw him spray as 50 yard cross field ball on the volley....nice.

I'm gonna say De Jong aswell, he was fantastic, never afraid to stick a foot in and always looked for the quick ball away. But I was extremely impressed with Bellamy for a large portion of the game. He's growing on me game by game at the moment.

So, keep calm and do it the United way

Most people gonna say de Jong but I'm gonna go for Sir Craig as he gave 120% last night he really gave one of his legendary shifts for the squad and you could see it as in extra time he was struggling to get onto running passes he was fucking knackered lol. He also set up Barrys goal with a nice set piece so that does me.

Agree with most that De Jong stood out and broke up most of their possession before they could build an attack.

However, Fulham offered little going forward and the game was all about breaking them down, and from that perspective Bellamy gave them more problems than anyone else.

But if I had to make a choice, I would have to be Barry. He started most of our few attacks, controlled the middle of the field, got forward into the box as much, if not more than our strikers and scored the first goal when i was beginning to think it would never happen.

Maybe not a night for negatives because the whole game was a bit flat from start to finish, but Ireland was awful and couldn't pass to a blue shirt, SWP and Tevez were knackered after 60 mins, Petrov ran as he always does but gave the ball away too much and Vladi Weiss did not do enough to suggest he is ready to start.

In summary, the three little guys up front only work when we are playing teams on the break (as per Arse and manyoo) and we missed Ade big time because we were too predictable. When we have to break crap teams down at home, we need Robbi.
Relax ... It's only a message board in hyperspace!!

Really poor game last night the sort we would not have won in the past which bodes well. I going for Nige who was one of the few bright sparks in a lacklustre performance. Honourable mention to Bellers again

I'd go for DeJong. It's right that Fulham offered nothing going forward but it was noticable how much more they went forward once DeJong (& to a lesser extent Ireland) went off; he was one of the main reasons they hadn't threatened because he kept taking the ball off them.

Strange one really, because I thought there were a lot of decent individual performances. Lescott had his best game for us. Kolo looked imperious again, Bridge continues to look tougher. Then going forward, Bellamy ran and worked hard and caused problems and Tevez never stopped moving. And yet it all looked a bit limp.

I'd agree that Fulham didn't offer much, some have sggested that as a reason not to vote for De Jong, but maybe it was because he did his job so well that they had so little joy.

So Nige for me too.

de Jong is a tough as old boots but can also play a bit of football. Reads the game well!
There was an occasion in the second half when he rode a couple of tackles and played the ball a little too far in front of him making it probobly 80/20 in favour of the fulham player (who did get there first) but Nige still blocked it when he really had no right to win it and never turned away (as most players do) from the challenge.
MOTM for me.

Has to be Tevez.
He WAS knackered after 60 minutes but still ran for 120 minutes.
De Jong was great but not as effective as he should be IMHO
Bellamy was also a wunderkind but Carlos had that touch of class as well
So TEVEZ (on the full 120 minutes)
